Criminals imprisoned should be punished, which the prison itself is one of that. There's a repercussion they have to face. Rehabilitation can also be provided, especially considering that they will be sent into society after serving their time, depending in the nature of crime. And the victims should be considered, for the pain and hurt they suffer.
