RE: Old Growth Forest: Hartwick Pines State Park

Ah what a beautiful place man! I love old growth trees! We have some in our area and it's wonderful to see them, but really sad when I see people cut them down for one shitty reason or another. We have this MASSIVE old growth silver maple, the thing is easily 10 or 12 feet at the base, and 70 feet tall at the very tip. We have a few of them but 2 were cut down and it's pretty obnoxious what people do to them.

As you said though, when things like the Monarch fall, it opens up room for others to take their place and it's a wonderful natural cycle that happens over and over.

I have to visit the peninsula one of these days that's for sure!

I think everyone should come here at least once in their life. It's a pretty cool place. There are some kind of meh areas, but a lot of really good areas too.
