You also save yourself from those rodents that may want to visit when everywhere is choked and clumsy. I can't remember the last time I saw a cockroach in my home and that's because they don't have anything to feed on. Lol.
When I was in high school, the place we moved into at first had cockroaches, and they were so gross. We cleaned everything, and painted the walls (which is supposed to help drive them away), and had a cat (sometimes cats will hunt them), but we never fully got rid of them until our neighbor that we shared walls with (it was a duplex house) moved out and we got new neighbors who were also clean. I felt so bad for my friends in apartment buildings with them, because they would just move from one apartment to the other, so even if they used chemicals to kill them, they weren't gone for long. I think that experience is at least partly why I'm so paranoid about bugs now.
Wow. That can be gross...I once lived in such an apartment, too, that was during my degree studies. No matter how hard we tried chasing them away, they will keep coming back. Today, we would deal with cockroach, tomorrow, it would be ants, next, rats, millipedes and the likes. We never really enjoyed that apartment and I lived for over 3 years coping and managing because it was closer to the school. It was a bad experience then but thank God nothing of such where I moved in.
