I always respect men who takes full responsibility especially when the other parent is not around. It's easier for the man to go dump the kids with a relative while he moves on with his life. So, maximum respect to your dad.
Also, it's always better to have both parents around. There are just some things a girl child will prefer discussing with a mother compared to a father. Like, how does a girl child discuss touchy issues like menstruation and attention or attraction to opposite sex with a dad? It will be an awkward discussion, that's if it ever happens.
I'm glad you know well enough how much my dad and any other dad who took it on themselves to take care of their kids on their own, how much they are doing.
Exactly, it's same for the guys too actually. There's a reason God made parents consist of a man and woman for their kids.
The last time I was at home alone with my kids, their wahala nearly kill me. Women are much more equipped to handle the intricacies of raising kids compared to men. So any man raising his kids on his own will have to go the extra length to learn what most men don't really know how to do.
