Doctors, like soldiers, are traditionally twice born dwija brahmana or kshatriya. These kavi and pundits are well respected for their learning in the case of doctor and their bravery in the case of the soldier.

The best brahmana traditionally did not work for a salary but only accepted donations, like a pujari. Nowadays on the opposite side of the scale, we see big pharmaceutical industries exploiting the people and basically stealing from us and cheating us.

Ayurveda is the root of all medicine. Danvantari presented the wisdom which is in some ways superior to modern medicine because it treats each person as an individual, with no generic medicine where "one size fits all".
