Speaking Up When Silence Is Safer

I have seen a lot of policemen collect bribes in broad daylight. I have walked into some offices where they asked for money before they approved the thing I went there to do, but who will I tell? Over here, reporting situations like that is just like waking a sleeping trouble.

Doing the whistleblowing thing looks like something courageous, but at the same time, it comes with fear. Becoming a whistleblower, one needs to be very careful about his job, career, leaks, and even unexpected backlash and threats from the society. It is not everyone that can have this brave mind to do the job, and to be sincere, that is very understandable because those even doing it are watching their six.

But if we continue to keep our mouths shut, evil things will continue to prevail. I think fewer people are doing the whistle blowing work because they fear for their protection. And if anyone wants to be involved in such activities, I feel like their identity should be kept a top secret, and anyone who dares to expose them even within the government should be punished.

And before any information from the whistle blower is put to use, it must be thoroughly examined because these days, where everything seems as it is, a false of information can easily destroy the lives of people. Like a movie I watched last year, any facts gotten from the whistle blowers are followed by careful and thorough questions and investigations to see if the information is actually correct or false.

Saying the truth should never be followed by life threatening. Because when truth prevails over lies, we tend to have a more safer and more secure environment where our voice is heard and things tend to work out.

Sometimes, I do ask myself if I can become a whistle blower. I guess I can. But when the system works, and until then, I think I will just continue to be myself till the system in my country works, till we are being protected, and our names are not being hunted.
