He always struck me as such an unlikely 'star', whatever the hell that word means... The kinda guy who would have preferred to be a songwriter or producer, out of the limelight. When I see that 7" cover for I sleep alone at night, I imagine him saying 'had away and s...', well ya know 😁 seeing the obligatory 80's suit and skulking wall-lean.
You got a Jim TTT and not a single mention of Hi Ho Silver! Impressive, Sir! I know it was a theme tune, I think 🤔 it was Boon. Always seemed a top man, humble for his trade, and didn't follow the trajectory of the biz, preferring to record, release and perform the stuff he liked and not what would've raised his star higher. I remember him getting a little ratty in an interview on this subject, I imagine it was Smash hits or Number 1 magazine, as they were my 'mustn't miss' reads.
I think the smash, mega-success after I should've known better, didn't sit too well, the speed of it I mean. I felt like it was number 1 for about 12 years, I just googled it, and it was 1 week, Wow! that surprised me as it was a radio staple for a long time, then again, I suppose everything felt a long time as a kid.
I meant to say more about the vulnerability of such a stripped back performances of Top Of The Pops, for a number 1 song and mention the wonderful 'I won't let you down', although it was a collaboration. However, I talked mostly about the man, but that's cool in a way, you don't hear much talked about him and even his death didn't quite get the fanfare it deserved. So maybe you featuring him here for 3 songs is kinda fitting and me rambling in that stevenish onandon way has enabled him to be remembered in a small way and the blockchain never forgets 😎💎
