I am also the type that doesn't like plenty calculation when it comes to academics. In ss1 or ss2 I had to sit myself down to learn those calculations and formulas in physics and chemistry. It was hard but I did.

In uni, I don't know calculations until it is few days to examinations, sometimes a day to the exam, I go to a friend to teach me as much as she can. I put them in my head and solve calculations first when I get into the exam hall.

You can get better at it, have friends that know it well. Watch them solve for few times then ask them to teach you and try it out.
