It explains much but does not excuse it. She will at some point, need to forgive her mom. Perhaps a conversation in the future can somewhat clear the air and make way towards that forgiveness. However, forgiving does not mean forgetting. I have had my own battles in this arena as well. Sometime, I might share the story of my own mother. I've also had to forgive others in a different situation. It doesn't mean that I forget.

In the end; forgiveness will set your friend free. Maybe she and her mom will come to an understanding and things will be somewhat okay. Maybe they won't and the relationship will end at that point. I do understand. Give your friend a hug for me and let her know that I am praying for her.
