Marketing and the Hive Name is a Thing That Doesn't Work

How Some People Already Know, Creating an Effective Digital Marketing Strategy for a Blockchain Network is Challenging

As some people already know, creating an effective digital marketing strategy for a blockchain network is, in itself, a rather complicated challenge. In the case of Hive, these challenges are even more pronounced due to a series of factors from the competitive environment and the peculiarities of this emerging technology like cryptocurrencies and blockchains. Hive, for its part, is aware of the great difficulty and faces unique obstacles that make the task of standing out as Web 3 even more daunting.

Even though we have great pioneers for this, like the Threads proposal promoted by InLeo or the Instagram-like approach promoted by Liketu.

The Name Confusion Among "Hives"

One of the most notable problems Hive faces in digital marketing, and which has been widely discussed, is the name confusion. There is a flood of projects, companies, and products sharing the name Hive, such as Hive Blockchain or Hive Digital Technologies, which even has a stock under the name HIVE. There are also other platforms not related to cryptocurrencies like Hive Blog. How can we use this brand for marketing strategies to promote the name Hive?

Thanks to @ausbitbank for this incredible contribution of the Arty bot, it saves me a lot of time with images, and I didn't want to leave it empty, acess the Discord.

When a potential user or investor searches for "Hive" on the internet, they are bombarded with a variety of irrelevant results, making it difficult to immediately identify the Hive blockchain, something that didn't happen with Steemit. The competition for visibility in search engines becomes fierce, requiring continuous SEO efforts to ensure Hive stands out, or rather, a bee stands out in the hive. Furthermore, the confusion can lead to a misperception of the project, where the public may not immediately recognize the unique benefits that Hive offers compared to other blockchain platforms or similarly named products.

Why on earth did they use this generic name? Just look at Coingecko; the best cryptocurrencies often have unique and distinguishable names, besides not being confused with unrelated projects. I could mention projects like Solana, and we also have Polkadot, among other examples, which cannot be easily confused with other things.

Web2 vs Web3 Problems

Blockchain is still a relatively new technology to be fully compared to social networks or Web2, and it is complex for many users. My family members barely know what Bitcoin is. In the case of Hive, which combines elements of social networks, content platforms, and cryptocurrencies, the need to educate the market is crucial and immediate. Explaining clearly and concisely what Hive is, its entire ecosystem, how it works, and its unique benefits is a monumental task. Communication must be accessible to beginners while being detailed and technical enough to satisfy experienced investors and developers. Not this absolute confusion about Hive Power, it should be just about Hive in Stacking; see what can be found when searching for Hive Power.

There is a great post created by @lordbutterfly on the need for a redesign for this, see here: Redesigning the Hive frontend wallets // From confusing noise😤 to clarity.

When you are trying to be part of something, you want to understand just the basics and improve over time. Witnesses, DHF Proposals, or even the curation process, all of this will be understood over time. Maybe it’s time for a front-end on Hive.blog designed for this. After all, once we understand the entire ecosystem, we can advance to using our favorite front-ends, like Peakd, Ecency, or InLeo.

For content creators, the focus should be on the benefits of direct monetization and the absence of intermediaries that characterize Hive. For developers, the emphasis should be on the opportunities for developing decentralized applications (dApps) and the flexibility of the Hive protocol. Investors, on the other hand, are more interested in the security, transparency, and potential appreciation of the HIVE token.

Creating targeted marketing campaigns is essential to cater to these different audiences. This involves using digital marketing techniques such as ad segmentation, remarketing, and content personalization. However, this approach increases the complexity of the marketing strategy and requires continuous data analysis to optimize campaigns and ensure that each segment receives relevant and impactful messages.

The Importance of the Community

One of Hive's strengths is its engaged and active community, with diverse interests such as #HiveGaming for gaming enthusiasts, #AlienArtHive for lovers of psychedelic, generative, or similar art, among others. Leveraging this community to drive marketing is a powerful strategy. Creating incentive programs, contribution rewards, and ambassador initiatives can help amplify Hive's message and reach a broader audience.

The community can be a valuable source of user-generated content, testimonials, and case studies that demonstrate the platform's value. Engaging the community in events, hackathons, and other collaborative activities can strengthen bonds and create a sense of belonging and loyalty. However, maintaining an active and satisfied community requires continuous effort and clear, open communication from the Hive team.

Creating and executing an effective digital marketing strategy for the Hive blockchain network is a complex and multifaceted task. Name confusion, the need to educate the market, target audience fragmentation, building and maintaining a reputation, intense competition, and the importance of community are just some of the challenges that need to be addressed. However, with a well-planned strategic approach and the ability to adapt quickly to changes, Hive can stand out as a leader in the Web3 blockchain market, attracting and retaining users and investors in an increasingly competitive environment.
