Ella miraba extrañada a Rosa.
«No... No... Sé... Estaba un gato blanco... No sé... El paciente...». Rosa temblaba descontroladamente.
Lucía abrazaba a Rosa.
«Ok, Lucía, no me demoro».
«No... No... Fue el gato... El gato blanco... Yo soy inocente...

"Rosa, are you ready to go out and rest?" Lucía walked in with a couple of coffees first thing in the morning.
"I'm exhausted. I don't really like shifts in the ER. I'll come home and sleep all day. Haha." Rosa was dropping her head on the cafeteria table.
"Cheer up, friend, it's only a few hours away and you'll be free. Haha." Lucia was placing her hand on Rosa's back.
At that moment, a loud sound alerted the nurses, one of the patients was having a crisis. Women were running through the white corridors bathed in blue lights. The voice of the loud speaker sounded insistently.
"Room 33 patient in crisis, room 33 patient in crisis."
The nurses arrived quickly and began to stabilize the man who was convulsing violently. After a few minutes, the situation was controlled and calm reigned in the place again. Rosa and Lucia took deep breaths and sat down at their desks to keep going through files.
"Rosa, it's been an hour. Please, can you go see the patient on 33rd?"
"It's all right. I'll be right back." Rosa stood up heavily and took the patient's file.
When she arrived at the room, she was surprised to see a snow-white cat, sitting at the foot of the bed. Rosa was looking around the room to see which way she had entered. The cat was staring at the woman, she felt a terrible chill and went out to call her companion.
"Lucia, Lucia, there's a white cat on 33rd."
She looked at Rosa strangely.
"A cat?"
"Yes, come I'll show you." Rosa was holding Lucia's hand.
After a few minutes they arrived in the room.
"Oh my God, Rosa, the patient is dead." Lucia was approaching the bed. "The machines are turned off. What happened here?"
"No... No... I know... There was a white cat... Cat... The patient..." Rosa was shaking uncontrollably.
"Calm down, friend. For sure it was a short film that made the machines turn off and unfortunately the patient died at that moment." Lucia was hugging Rosa. "Come, let's make the report and call the morgue."
After that incident, the days passed normally. Rosa had forgotten about that cat and thought it was a figment of her imagination.
"Rosa, please go and see the patient on 53. I was very restless at 1 a.m." Lucia passed the file to Rosa.
"OK, Lucia, I won't delay." Rosa was leaving the nursing station.
When she got to the room, that white cat was sitting at the foot of the bed. Rosa screamed, dropped the file and ran out. She returned with Lucia and they saw the patient dead and the machines were turned off. Rosa cried inconsolably in Lucia's chest. After a few hours, the women returned to the nursing station.
"Rosa, I'm worried about what's happening to you. You should ask for a vacation. The tiredness is affecting you a lot."
"I swore I saw a white cat. Something very strange is happening here." Rosa was putting her hands on her face.
"Friend, calm down, we'll look for that cat. He must be around here somewhere, but what's more worrying is why the machines are turning off. I'm going to ask for a thorough check of the outlets." Lucia put her hand on Rosa's shoulder. "As for you, I'll ask for a vacation. You need to rest."
Rosa uncovered her haggard face and showed a slight smile. After fifteen days, Rosa returned to the emergency department, had a rejuvenated air and seemed calmer. Lucia received her friend with effusiveness.
"Friend, I see you very well."
"The rest felt really good. I needed it." Rosa was painting a smile on her face.
"I need you to be at full capacity, because we have a lot of patients. It's going to be a busy night. Haha." Rosa was picking up her hair.
"I'm ready, give me what you have. Hehe."
"Here are the files for you to do the rounds."
Rosa took the papers and walked through the white corridors. She entered room 33 and at the foot of the bed was that white cat. That cold look made her feel a chill that ran through her whole body. Rosa threw the files away, was screaming and running completely out of her mind.
"Lucia, Lucia, the cat... The cat... White... He's back... Come quickly..."
"Calm down, friend." Lucia was holding Rosa by the arms.
Rosa took Lucía by the hand, and they headed to the room. The patient was lying lifeless and the machines were turned off, at that moment there was a stir in the hospital. Rosa was crying uncontrollably and Lucia was trying to calm her down. The guards arrived and addressed the nurses.
"Please, Miss Rosa, can you accompany us."
"What's the matter?». Lucia stared at the guards in amazement.
"We have suspicions that Miss Rosa is the cause of the patients' deaths." The guard looked coldly at the women. "Please come with us to ask you a few questions."
"No... No... It was the cat... The white cat... I am innocent... It was the cat..." Rosa came out of her boxes.
She started to struggle and took the guard's gun, everything was confusing. Rosa was pointing shakily, while everyone was trying to calm her down. Lucia was approaching the upset woman.
"Calm down, Rosa. These men are just going to ask you a few questions." Lucia was taking the barrel of the gun with subtlety.
"Noooooo!" Rosa's bulging eyes were directed at Lucia.
Then a shot was heard, Lucia was falling, one of the guards opened fire. Then everything turned dark. Rosa opened her eyes, and the blurred images became sharp. She was surrounded by machines, she had an oxygen mask and at that moment the white cat appeared, it landed on Rosa's chest, she saw that cold look and remembered everything. The white cat blinked and the machines turned off, Rosa felt that she was short of air, suffocating fatigue snuffed out her life and finally closed her eyes.
"Yury, go to room 53."
Yury was heading toward the room, and upon entering, she saw the white cat sitting at the foot of the bed, with the machines turned off.

It’s an excellent story, and it’s surely based on a true story. In a hospital in the US, there’s a cat that predicts the deaths of patients; it simply lies down on the bed of the patient who is about to die. In your story, you added the twist that it’s the same cat that switches off the machines and kills the patients, that really is terrifying, because you never know who’ll be next… whoever the cat chooses!
Your stories always have that intriguing twist at the end, it’s brilliant. Thank you so much and a big hug!🤗
