When I recorded my last Walk and Talk series video, I mentioned that you will probably not see the surroundings in my videos as I will move to another place... I did move to another place, but a few days ago, I had to go back to the old town, to sort out some paperwork, got some free time, and used it for a long walk... As it was a 3-hour walk, I had a lot of time to sort my thoughts, which gave me an idea of recording this video... π
As I was moving during the whole of October, I reduced my daily walks a lot... To be honest, there were NO daily walks at all! Just occasional walks and I missed them very much... From November, we are finally settled down in the new place, and I hope I will "restart" my daily walks... when the weather allows it... We had rain for the last few days, but it should be better soon... When I was on this walk, I was lucky to have a sunny day! I enjoyed this one!
The topic of the video is habits and routines... Are they good, or they are bad? Do they help you, or do they imprison you? To answer my question from the title, I am a creature of habits... Firstly, I did that walk exactly on the route that I knew from before, and I was doing the same route many times... one habit... Secondly, I have a habit of NOT going back from a walk on the same path... So, most of my routes are in circles... I go on one side, and come back on the other side... another habit... or maybe an OCD... you tell me... π
It's not that I have a habit in my walks, but I also have some working habits... I'm using a daily task list to not forget something... Every morning, the first thing that I do is to open the same 4-5 apps on my laptop, check email, and Hive notifications, and click around in the Idle games that I play... π
Are you a creature of habits? Do you have your daily routines? Do you think that habits can "steal" your creativity?
Thank you for your time,

I'm like cats, I like a routine, if something changes I'm screwed
I totally get you! Hahaha!
Hahahaha... Tbh, I don't like surprises either... Especially if they are negative and out of my routine... π I can survive, but with lot of stressing and time-wasting... π€£
I think sometimes it can be distracting as for example you have these gamification apps like Duolingo. You realize you aren't learning but the game is an obsession and you keep at it maintaining your streak.
I have that issue and even though I have another app, I keep doing my Duolingo before going to bed.
Ironically i don't even get tokens like here on #Hive π
Hahahaha... That's funny! π
A few years ago I was hooked up on some mobile games like ClashRoyale and BrawlStars, and I would play those stupid games for hours... What a waste of time... Recently, my phone has been slower and slower, so I'm "demotivated" to use it at all... It does me a favor... π I have so much more time for smarter things to do... π
I think naturally we are creatures of habit in so many ways. The habits are beneficial in a lot of ways but they are also restrictive and challenging. We just have to find the right balance of beneficial and restrictive.
Agree... The right balance is always a good way to do things...
Also, there are good and bad habits, which I forgot to mention... There we don't need a balance, but rather to kick out the bad ones and grow the good ones... π
I think habits can be good or bad. I don't think it's a bad thing to reflect on it, and I also have habits. It's more of balance though for me.
Yup! Bad habits are like weed in the garden... They can easily turn the garden into a mess, but if you control them, they can't do a lot of harm...
I try to make habits a bit more flexible and adaptable. For the most part, sticking to habits, especially beneficial ones, is a really great way to think less and just do more, moving the needle forward. But getting fixated on them may stagnant growth in the long term.
Well said! It is indeed like that! If we focus "too much" on habits, we can stop growth... It looks like we have to search for the right balance!
Hope you settle in well now the move is done π
I think everybody is in some way or shape a creature of habit π as it is comfortingβ¦
Have a great new week!
Oh, yes... We all love our comfort zones... π
Happy new week to you too! β€οΈ
Thanks a lot π enjoy yours!
I do have a morning routine that I like and it can steal my time that I could be spending more productively sometimes. I do think getting yourself into good habits and routines is good though as we are creatures of habit. Good to see you in your old stomping ground, looking forward to see in your new area if you make any more walk and talks!
I'm still exploring the streets and surroundings of the new town... I spotted 1-2 places that could be great for daily walks, but I want to have more alternatives... The good thing is that there is a lot of space in nature, and relatively close to my home!
I guess I can be both ways nowadays... I didn't think I could, to be honest. Had my routines, of course, and I still do. But now I sometimes improvise, and it feels great when I do.
Improvising is giving that additional spark... Like a cherry on top of a cake... The cake is good, but the cherry... π
Hahaha nice topic. I definitely am a creature of habit. If there is a spectrum, I am probably 90% habit and 10% random.
I like to plan my week, what I want to do, what appointments I need to make, where do I have my meals, etc. I think having a to do list makes me feel more organised and I also use my time more effectively and become more productive. But like you said, it's not always good because it makes me rigid and resistant to change. That's something that I am trying to accept and also learn to cope with at the same time, which falls under that 10%.

Hehehehe... When I read your comment, I realized that maybe I'm even more creature of habit than I thought... I like to organize my things too, and to plan them well before they have to happen... But, that isn't the same as doing the same things over and over... Anyway, I suppose that we should raise that 10% a bit more up... and make things more fun.. and more creative, maybe... π
Hahahaha yes.. I know it might sound like an excuse but I just need more time! There's just so much to do, plus I also have my day job, and I also need to sleep as well.
Yes, I'm a creature of habits. They give structure and security to the days, but they also pose a danger because when I can't fulfil them I'm completely lost and I get stuck. π I hope the adaptation to the new home is going well.
Hehehehe... Oh, how many times I had that feeling of being lost and stuck... Especially when I have to do something OUT of my habits, something that I don't know, something that I'm not used to doing... I spend days and days, sometimes weeks, until I finally get "unstuck" π
Even with this moving... I could have done more things DURING the process, but I was stuck OUT of my routines and habits... If I couldn't do them all, I would not do them! π Sounds silly, but my brain worked like that (and works) π
It also has its advantages! We free the mind from everyday things and it allows us to use it to plan or reflect. π
There are some habits of mine that i like, there are some I donβt really like but both make me who i am.
That's well said! Indeed both, good and bad, make us what we are... I suppose that we can work on ourselves and try to reduce the bad habits and grow more the good ones... :)
I am both and different of me enjoys chaos. I hope the new place is good π. We're finally having rain and it's when I am enjoying walks the most hehe.
I'm not sure I would survive living in chaos... π I mean, my room and office look like it's in chaos, but for me, it's in perfect order... π
Oh, yes... I enjoy my personal space! π (that's anti-social me talking π€£)
The anti social me also talks that way, personal space is a must haha. Sometimes our chaos is actually a perfect order to our braind, at least.
Habits can actually be beneficial, especially if they are positive and align with your goals.
Yeah... No use of those bad habits... π
Your post is not showing through HIVE.BLOG, I don't know if it's just through this interface or if it's just me
It looks like it's just you... maybe bad node, or browser cache... π€
EDIT: Oh, wait... you are right... the body isn't visible... lol
It's 100% because of the odysee player embed...
I knew it, I did everything, yet the body just wasn't visible
