I'm quite happy with where I am and my job is giving me what I want right now but knowing how the world works, and how things change so quickly, I've decided to be on guard.
So, for what it's worth, I like my job. It's high stress at times but at the end of every call, I feel like I've done a decent job in convincing someone to stay with the company.
I'm also happy with the state of the company and my path to career growth. I've indicated that I want to grow and get into managerial positions, and the company has responded kindly to this by giving me opportunities to show my capacity.
I've also seen myself given more responsibility and trainings that will increase my income. I'm getting what I hoped to get when I got the job but I'm not dropping my guard, not at all.
Things could change pretty quickly and as such, one has to always be on the look out for better opportunities. This is why I intend to start checking the job market and see what is available for me.
I'd taken a break from job searching for a while but after almost six months of my current role, I feel like it's time to start seeing what is out there for me. Don't get me wrong, I actually intend to stay in this company for the foreseeable future but at the same time, I'll also be checking out better opportunities outside.
The labour market is unforgiving and it gives you no room to rest on your laurels. In my previous job, I saw company execs being laid off, colleagues getting fired over mundane things and that lit a fire in me to constantly be on the prowl for better opportunities.
This company hasn't actually shown those traits but in the short time I've been here, I've seen a number of colleagues change jobs due to the me talk demands of the role. I'm dealing with it well for now but you never know what the future holds.
Things change quite rapidly, so to give me something if a safety net, I'm keeping my options open by dusting off my CV and spamming the market for better opportunities. I'm going to apply for jobs in project management and assistance, largely because they have much better salaries, get me mentally ready for my courses that I intend to start in November and just keeps my mind fresh. In this climate, your head just has to be on swivel.
Keeping an open mind and prowling for better opportunities is never a bad option.
Good luck on your hunt✨
Thanks. For now, I'm brushing up my CV
Good decision.
It’s really important to keep an open mind and see what is out there in terms of jobs. I’ve been keeping my resume updated because I don’t believe that anything is off the table when it comes to companies these days. I love the people I work with but I’m not delusional in thinking that the company would get rid of me if it wanted to. Defensive offensive positions are so important.
Absolutely. Gotta constantly be on the look out. Im going to start applying for jobs with better terms and pay from October. I'm putting it off until then because I also want to stay in one place for a while. Wouldn't want companies thinking I'm a flight risk because I keep changing jobs.
I won't attack the market but I'll be testing the waters to gauge the feedback from other employers. If anyone works, fine. If it doesn't, all good I'm fine where I am, for now
