An architectural Walk near one of the Oldest Parisian Skyscrapers.

avatar

Friends of the structures, perspectives and other patterns of our modern buildings, which have little or nothing to do with the buildings of a few centuries ago, I propose to you today a walk which extends over the whole day - over several specific hours - in the Montparnasse district, one of the other hills of the city of Paris. "Mont" for mountain, you will have understood !

On this day, I arrive quite early by metro because I work in a place and by the way, whoever can guess which one will receive 1 HBD :)

This more modest tower is the one in the shopping centre of the station of the same name. The style of architecture dates from the 70s and 80s and can be seen in many of the other buildings we will see later...

For example, in these two residential buildings...

Or in the frame of its windows, lit by the reflections of the first rays of the sun.

But let's move on to our main actor, the Tour Montparnasse, a 210 meters high building with 59 floors.

The tower was built between 1969-1973 and it is worth noting that there is an observatory at the top (of course) from which the panoramic view over Paris must be superb!

I was completely unaware of this and that's what's good about preliminary research :)

Here, some reflections in the first floors starting from the ground of the tower. The quality of the image is not very good, less than what I would have obtained with my 35mm. Indeed, to get this aperture and field effect, I am currently playing with my Nikon 18-55mm kit lens.

Here, in tighter shots, we find first a view of the station, whose facade is entirely composed of a multitude of frames all different from the others and on the second image, an office building in a much more soviet and sober style.

A few streets away, the evolution of this style can be found in a slightly more contemporary way.

Here, another frame like an oriental moucharabieh, those devices that originally allow you to see from inside without being seen yourself...

In the same street, we see the duel between the old and the new, the (perhaps peaceful?) struggle between the Haussmann style and these buildings made of glass, resins and colored plastics. Will the latter last as long ? Only time will tell!

Another of these buildings, more sober and guarded by a sharp-eyed crow, which nevertheless allows itself to be approached... One of the few if not the only natural element of this morning walk.

But the grids are also found on the floor with this collection of bricks, of different colors and aspects, the perspective accentuated by the blinds and the large bay windows.

It is now midday and I go out to continue my walk, but the weather is getting cloudy and it is cold... I prefer to keep my strength up for the rest of the day and take one of those salutary little fifteen-minute naps...

One of the bay windows in the place where I work... Can you guess which one ? It is in the surroundings, it is up to you to deduce ;-)

After this last shot, the afternoon goes on quietly until the end of the day...

When I go out, the sky is overcast and until I reach the foot of the Montparnasse Tower, I don't take any pictures. But suddenly, the sun breaks through the clouds and gives me this light that I find quite ideal !

Our architectural walk is coming to an end with, as a last image, another, wider view of one of the buildings seen in the morning...

I hope you have enjoyed this stroll with me and I thank you warmly for your time ! Do not hesitate to ask your questions and other feelings in the comments :)

I wish you a very nice day, take good care of you !

Thanks for the tour cool to see all the buildings, including the residential ones, cool to see, but I never liked the idea of living in such buildings I lived in one for a few months in Queens NYC, but hated it, and moved further out to have a separate property and get out of the city I preferred that even with a longer commute

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks

Super cool buildings. I don't know if I would want to work or live in one though. I'll take a stab at your work place. Is it the picture right above the bay window clue?

Yeah, me neither ! But it’s a pleasure to play with :)

All are clues hehe as they are from the same neighborhood ;-)

I loved looking at each photo, great use of the lines and architectural details... In some cases the luminosity was challenging, but you have solved in an excellent way this stumbling block... That photo of the glass façade with that bike!.... Awwww... A visual poem!... Thank you for sharing this!!!!.... It was a pleasure to watch!

Thanks you a lot for your visit and photographical look on those :D

I always like to find a way, even if my natural type of architecture is rather rococo ^^

Be well and thank you again ✌🏼
