Mount Everest at sunset
Ever since I was a child I was fascinated with the idea of climbing Mount Everest. Throughout my late teens and early twenties I climbed several relatively high peaked mountains in the US and in the Andes in South America. Never anything that required scaling cliffs or trails with a sheer drop off on one side or both. I do enjoy the view but not being that close to the edge! I never did make a serious attempt to even go to Everest being as dangerous as it is.
I read yesterday that the government of Nepal will no longer issue permits to climb Mount Everest (29,031 feet, 8,845 meters) unless you first climb another mountain in Nepal over 7,000 meters (22,966 feet) in height. In part it was done to reduce to crowds climbing Everest as there is always a very long line at the summit with dangerously low levels of oxygen. And I also suspect forcing climbers to climb another mountain in the country brings in more tourist money which is significant revenue for the nation. Also, probably a way to weed out inexperienced climbers who are more likely to die attempting the climb.

Line of climbers waiting to summit Everest
I guess that's bad news to those aspiring to climb to the top of the world! I can assure you that I definitely won't ever be crazy enough to even try.
Today is also Tuesday so I'll be sharing a Three Tune Tuesday of chart toppers in the late 1970's. Not just any chart toppers, those bands that were all women or fronted by one. But first off, I want to say thank to @ablaze for starting and continuing to support this fun weekly event. If you don't already participate feel free to jump in with three fun songs of your own and use the tag #threetunetuesday or #ttt and it's never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @ablaze . One random participant each week wins some HSBI units!
Like I mentioned a second ago, these are coming from the very late 1970's and into early 1980's, but all top notch and extremely talented bands. Today I'll kick off the fun with The Runaways.
The Runaways were an American band that formed in Los Angeles, California in 1975. They were only around for four years and produced four albums of punk/ hard rock. Several members of the band went on to even bigger careers such as Joan Jett, Lita Ford, and Cherie Curie. While their most well known song is likely "Cherry Bomb", I always liked this one as well "Gettin' Hot":
Formed in 1974 in New York City, Blondie as a punk/ new wave band and are fronted by the iconic singer Debbie Harry. Upon release of their third album Parallel Lines in 1978 they were rocketed to success and the top of the charts. The biggest hits off the album were "Heart of Glass" and this song "One Way Or Another":
Last, but definitely not least, are The Go-Go's. They formed as a band in Los Angeles, California in 1978 as a punk/rock band. Fronted by Belinda Carlisle this all girl group released their album Beauty and the Beat in 1981 which shot up the charts and put them at the top of the music scene of the early 1980's. Two big hits came off the album; "Our Lips Are Sealed" and this one "We Got the Beat":
We Got The Beat
That will do it for this Three Tune Tuesday. I hope you enjoyed learning a little more about Mount Everest and some of the early female punk bands. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below and thank you for all of your support. I really do deeply appreciate it! Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Nice! That are some pure Rock & Roll women! 🎸 3 solid picks indeed!
On the topic of punk rock women, this band Dirty Mary never made it at all but I had seen them open for other punk bands in NYC in late nineties and early early 2000’s. They were a NYC band and would open for bands regularly. Beyond not making it mainstream, I don’t think they made it with a following at all. But check em out! I just remember the front women was crazy hot!!!
The band Dirty Mary! Three time Tuesday bonus picks for my homie @thebighigg 🎸
Honestly it sounds like they were just born 2 late!

Cheers! 🍻 🎸

I saw a show on TV a long time ago where they were talking about Everest and it was so crazy the amount of stuff you have to do to get there, plus all the other hazards. I never wanted to climb the mountain and now I really don't after having watched that.
I heard one climber who nearly died up there say, "If you aren't willing to play Russian roulette, don't climb Everest". I think that says it all!
Yeah, that is a good point. I remember in the show they said if you die they basically just leave you there because it's too much work to get you down.

I watched a few documentaries about how these mountains are formed, such a beautiful mountain and so dangerous that so many have lost their lives there.

!PIMP right back at you! How are you doing?
I'm ok, just still having issues after the power outage Monday (we also didn't have water) because when water came back yesterday, two things broke (I guess because of the pressure) .. still carrying bottled water to the sink to do dishes third day straight. Not fun with sore hands and back lol. But hopefully fixed on Saturday :)
How have you been?

I want to apologize for NOT participating. My workday today has been very complicated. We had a meeting this morning, and my work has fallen behind.
I don't like to go back on my word. I'd rather say I won't participate, but I will comment.
I wish you a good evening.
Three belters, Debbie Harry I had a huge crush on and saw her a few times including once at Wembley with INXS in the summer in London, what a mental day that was.
Belinda Carlisle is another wee cracker. Joan Jett I think for me was the most famous Runaway.
As for Everest, when we lived in Edinburgh we used to frequent a Nepalese restaurant that was owned by a Nepalese guy that used to be in the Gurkhas as part of the British Army and before that was a sherpa. Even then he said it was too crowded with silly tourists he called them. But not for me!
Joan Jett was by far the most famous, but Lita Ford could play a mean guitar and had a couple good albums here in the US. I still remember her song "Kiss Me Deadly"! I think we all had a huge crush on Debbie Harry, she was a good looking woman for sure.
Everest gets too many inexperienced climbers and travelers. One should respect a foreign culture and learn about it before you travel. Then again I'm preaching to the choir, you have lived all over like I have and feel the same way! Sherpas have a dangerous job, but it pays them well or they wouldn't do it!
Our mountains in Scotland are teeny, Ben Nevis is only 4 thousand something feet but the weather changes dramatically on any given day and fluffing tourists go up there unprepared and our mountain rescue boys risk their necks in the blind fog etc to save these eejits!
Now I shall be looking up Lita Ford tomorrow! Cracking post.
The government of Nepal should demand that the climbers to go with K2 first. Throughout time, people have suggested that this one is higher than Mount Everest. Whether that is true or not, I don't know. K2, supposedly, is a tad more difficult to master. I learned about this mountain through a project by Don Airey, an album he created back in the 80s.
K2 is a more dangerous mountain for sure and many have died trying to summit it in the past few years. Everest is technically an easier climb which is why it's probably more popular than the infamous K2. I wouldn't try to climb either, I don't have a death wish!
Same here. Wont climb any of them. And even when I would be a mountain climber, Everest is too popular these days.
Love the Blondie pick than you have choose! My favorite one!
Climbing a mountain is a "big no" for me, since I have a lot of dizziness and fear of heights... I admire people like you who can literally walk down a slope and look down without fear of falling! Ahahah
I don't like heights either, but I'm OK climbing a hill or mountain as long as it doesn't involve a trail along a ridge with a sheer drop off. No way I could even consider Everest, way too many sheer drop offs on both sides. That and I'm not in my twenties anymore either! lol
Yes, has we get elder, other concerns rise from our minds😅
Lady's at the top indeed, what a great selection of songs, ones hadn't heard in a while, besides Blondie. I recently introduced her music to my daughter, thanks for the reminder for The Runaways and The Go-Go's.
I like to go on treks myself, not so much wanting to get to the top, but more about getting to walk through different landscapes.
It is crazy how many people want to climb Mt Everest, but also good on them, as long as they care for the actual mountain, I saw footage of all the rubbish that gets left behind, that is not okay.
I'm glad I was able to remind you of those classics, both great bands! I do hope you're daughter appreciates them!
In my younger years I liked to climb mountains mainly in South America where I lived and worked at the time in the early 90's. Never the technical stuff with ropes or rock climbing, never been a fan of those kind of heights. Treks to enjoy the landscape are much more my speed these days! lol
People really need to not litter up Everest or any mountains. Everest is one of the worst because of laziness in my opinion. Pack out what you bring in, that's what I was taught. Of course the corpses at 26,000+ feet are horrible to leave, there's no way to really safely retrieve them. I've always detested litter bugs...
Thanks for checking out my post, I appreciate it! Nice to find like minded people here on Hive!

I am with you my friend, I will pass on trying to climb Everest Lol!🙄
In addition to a serious technical climb, the lack of oxygen always makes high altitude dangerous for climbers!
I had a good friend that flew straight into our hometown in Colorado and immediately developed high altitude sickness! The next day he was hospitalized…… he didn’t even do any strenuous activity and we were only at 10,000 feet!🙄

My condition generally makes it impossible for me to stay in a place of elevation, because our oxygen level are already compromised. I think Mount Everest over the years have gotten a lot of documentaries and reality TV show, so I think Nepal has made a lot of money, but it's good they're limiting the attention because of security reasons.
This character is called “Cherry Bomb” ¿Coincidence or inspiration?
