Three Tune Tuesday with Some Lesser Known Alternative Rock!

Tuesday is here once again, it seems to come faster and faster every week. I guess that means we are one day closer to Friday, or if you live in the United States, Thursday as Friday is a national holiday! For a very long time now I've been putting together Three Tune Tuesday posts on pretty much a weekly basis. Why? Because it's fun! My music will tend to vary week to week, but I to tend to share a lot of heavy metal being a metal head at heart...

But I also really enjoy other music genres from almost every era, today's songs are probably more alternative rock/ new wave from the 1980's. And today's tunes will be pretty much obscure songs most may have never heard of, it makes it all the more fun!

First up, as a silver stacker I have long been trying to collect the entire line of Silver Strike tokens produced by the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The establishment is now long defunct, but it was a great place in it's day. Being off the main Las Vegas strip probably was what killed it in the end, but now their Silver Strike tokens are valuable as pieces of Las Vegas history.

From eBay.com

I found this one on eBay recently, but they want more than $80 for it. I used to be able to pick these up for less than $20... The good old days... These were tokens that could be won by playing certain slot machines in casinos around the US, Caribbean, and on cruise ships for many years. Now those machines are also becoming extinct making these tokens all the more valuable. The tokens contain just about 0.6 Troy ounces of pure silver surrounded by a brass ring, and being silver they've always been right up my alley and I have a bunch of them collected! Just not many from the Hard Rock...

I like this particular one as it's uncommon from the Hard Rock, it was a rather short production so they are pricey. If I can find one for less than $50 I may pull the trigger, it just hasn't happened yet... Now onto the music!

However, before we get going, I want to say thank you to @ablaze for starting and continuing to sponsor this fun weekly event where you can share three songs that you enjoy. One lucky participant will win some HSBI units, you can't have too many of those! So if you don't already participate feel free to jump in, just use the tag #ttt or #threetunetuesday and it's never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @ablaze .

The Icicle Works

This band from Liverpool, England is probably best known for their one big hit, "Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)", from 1984. But they continued to record albums for several years without the same success they initially enjoyed. In 1987 they released If You Want To Defeat Your Enemy Sing His Song which is probably my favorite album they put out. It's has a few great songs, but my favorite has always been this one: "Understanding Jane":

Stan Ridgeway

Stan Ridgeway is probably most famous for his song "Mexican Radio" with the band Wall of Voodoo from 1982. They emerged from a punk club in Los Angeles, California and were an underground band for most of their existence. He then went solo producing some great songs, although most people never will have heard of them. This one is called "Drive, She Said" off his album The Big Heat from 1986.

Fred Schneider

If you are a fan of the band the B-52's I'm sure you already know who this artist is. He does the lead vocals for the band, but has done some solo work over the years. This is one of his more popular solo songs that most people will most likely never have ever heard about. It's a hilarious song and backed by vocalist Kate Pierson also from the B-52's. To be honest it almost sounds more like a B-52's song than anything but always made me laugh! This song is called "Monster":

That will do it for this Three Tune Tuesday, yes much more obscure songs for sure than normal. But sometimes that's fun! Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and as always thank you for all of your support. It really is deeply appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

I've actually been listening to the Icicle Works a bit lately. I've just really gotten into them more than I did back in the day. They are so good!

I remember seeing a fluff big guitar at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas...
Some great music today!
The Icicle Works... Love Is a Wonderful Colour was a much bigger hit here for them in 83 I think, ironically the year I am on now in my TTT.
