It's Tuesday, and you know what that means – time to share some tunes for the brilliant #threetunetuesday initiative started by @ablaze!
This week I said fluff it! So i’m revisiting a band that truly deserves more spotlight, in my opinion anyway lol The Tourists. My inspiration for today's post is a wee bit bittersweet ~ I was supposed to be doing a job and wandering the historic streets of Edinburgh today, but I mixed up my dates and it's fluffing tomorrow 🤣. With Edinburgh now hitting peak tourist season, there are tourists everywhere and it got me thinking about this very aptly named band and the fantastic music they made! As some of you might remember that two years ago I dived into their world in a previous post, "WE’RE NOT TOURISTS, WE LIVE HERE ttt 110"
They had three albums so there’s still a few great tunes to share from their all-too-brief career.
It is Tuesday and that of course means that it's #ttt or #threetunetuesday and so it's time to share some tunes with you!
@ablaze started #ttt 209 weeks ago! Go check out what it is all about on his last post Four Years of Three Tune Tuesday - Week 209 - win 6 HBI
Do go support @ablaze as without him we would not have this mental fun musical activity that you can win HSBI from! I am happy to be one of the SIX sponsors and it is kinda fun checking out music from all over this global village of ours!
If you're new to them then The Tourists were a brilliant British new wave band active in the late 70s and very early 80s. Although they are probably know more as the group where Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart honed their craft before forming the iconic Eurythmics.
But for me The Tourists were a fantastic band in their own right that introduced Annie Lennox's unmistakable and powerful vocals to the world.
First up is "Blind Among the Flowers" which is from their 1979 self-titled debut album.
It was also their first charting single in the UK, and it’s a fluffing awesome introduction to their early sound.
This is transition times from punk to new wave.
I had to pick this live version that was recorded for the Old Grey Whistle Test what a show that was!
Next up let’s jump forward a couple of years to their final studio album, 1980's Luminous Basement.
The tune is "Strange Sky." A bit of difference to the first tune I think.
You can really hear how Lennox's vocals getting more powerful, and it isn't hard to see how she became such a legend in the music world.
Annie Lennox is from Aberdeen in the North of Scotland. At the weekend in the year of the underdogs they beat Celtic to win the Scottish Cup after 35 years. I am sure she was happy and I thought this is an appropriate song to close it.
It is reminds me of some of the 2Tone Ska tunes too!
My third and final pick is "Don't Say I Told You So" from the excellent Luminous Basement album.
So there you have it – three tunes from The Tourists
Note: The 3 YouTube videos that I have shared are not owned by me, I am simply spreading great music on Hive.
I wish that you all have a brilliant happy fun and terrific Tuesday until we meet again enjoy your tunes 🎶🎵🎶

I was going to say just by looking at the photo of them I bet they are some kind of new wave band. I will have to dig into them a bit more tomorrow!
This was the first band that Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart were in, then they formed the Eurythmics before going their separate ways.
Interesting!
I hadn't heard this band, but I enjoyed “Don't Say I Told You So”. I love seeing the gestures of some of the singers, because they look like they're in character or that a spirit got into them. hahaha. It's part of the show. Have a safe trip tomorrow, Ed. Hugs from tourist.
Have you heard of Annie Lennox or the Eurythmics Nancy?? The Tourists where Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart really started making music together!
She is a performer and has so much emotion.
Thank you I just got home and will send you some pictures. An Edinburgh hug today :)

I love those band on the 80's because there songs were very nice to hear.
Yeah all good fun, although Annie Lennox the lead singer was in other bands for many years and sang solo too!
