A fun afternoon at Parque de la 93 with llanera music

Hello, Hivers and Music lovers!

Last Saturday, we head over to Parque de la 93 for a walk. This small park, surrounded by a bustling commercial district and restaurants in northern Bogotá, is often the site of various fairs and festivals, some of which I’ve mentioned in the past. This weekend there was a fair featuring live music, food, and handicrafts from different regions of the country; the event was called “Colombia son las Regiones.”

When we arrived, there was live music playing, and we were surprised by the number of people there. We’ve been to other events like this at the park, and they aren’t usually this crowded, so we figured someone famous must be performing.

It was llanera music, a popular genre from the Llanos region shared by Colombia and Venezuela. And although I don’t usually listen to that kind of music very often, this sounded incredibly good. We watched for a while and found out that the singer’s name was Jhon Onofre, and later, when I got home, I did a quick online search with the #ttt in mind.

It turns out that Jhon Onofre is a well-known llanera singer, born in Granada, in the department of Meta, who rose to fame after winning the 2016 musical reality show A otro nivel, produced by the Colombian network Caracol TV.

So for this #threetunetuesday, I’m bringing you some songs performed by this Colombian singer whom we happened to see live the last weekend.

Tune 1 - Jhon Onofre - Debajo Del Sombrero

Debajo Del Sombrero was the song that was playing when we got to the park. Everyone was singing along, and I thought it was really catchy. It’s a popular song written and composed by the Spanish singer-songwriter Manuel Adán Contero. One of the artists who has made it popular is none other than Jhon Onofre.

Tune 2 - Jhon Onofre - Y Si Se Quiere Ir

Y Si Se quiere Ir is a Mexican song. I really liked Jhon Onofre's version more than the original.

Tune 3 - Jhon Onofre - Caballo Viejo

In a post dedicated to llanera music, how could I not include a version of Caballo Viejo by the great Simón Díaz. And of course, Jhon Onofre doesn't disappoint with his rendition of this popular song

Bonus tune - Jhon Onofre - Se Me Olvidó Otra Vez

And to wrap things up, here’s this singer’s rendition of a well-known song by Mexican artist Juan Gabriel. Se Me Olvido Otra Vez with its “llanera” version.

We spent a fun afternoon. After watching Jhon Onofre’s performance, we walked around the park, browsing the various craft booths, which were organized by region.
