Indiana actually has the second most Japanese companies in the US (Cali is of course #1). Last I checked the number was around 210 of them. As you might guess, almost all of them are car parts companies. Those factories employee a lot of Hoosiers. I actually teach some students who work at those factories over Teams. Usually a few Japanese go over for a year and try to teach all the Americans how to do things the Japanese way, then the Americans make all the car parts. One of my students is from Nissen. I think their office is up near South Bend.
That is cool. I know Ohio has a big Honda plant and we have the big Toyota facility down south of Ann Arbor. I remember when the movie Gung Ho came out and how big of a deal it was in Michigan especially.
