That's a Nope from me Dog...

I can still remember when American Idol first premiered on TV. Paula Abdul was still somewhat relevant, people hadn't totally forgotten who Brian Dunkleman was, Simon Cowell was just some mean British guy they had never heard of before, and fans were introduced to famous "behind the scenes" man Randy Jackson.

Through the course of the tryouts three things became quite apparent. Simon Cowell hates pretty much everyone, Paula Abdul is a bit of a flake, and Randy Jackson likes to say the word "Dog". If you saw Randy Jackson today, you probably wouldn't recognize him. He's lost a ton of weight and quite honestly, he looks fake. I'm not sure what all work he had done or if he had some kind of disease, but he looks downright horrible.

He still sounds the same though and his famous catch phrase containing the words nope, and dog still rings true.

I'm actually going to do something a little different this week for #threetunetuesday sponsored by @ablaze. Instead of bringing you three songs that I absolutely love, I thought it might be fun to bring you three songs that I pretty much hate.

It was actually kind of hard coming up with three songs because if you know me, you know I like a wide variety of music and artist. It's not like I am 100% country and anything R&B is trash to me (or vice versa). I like a little bit of everything and even in the most mundane songs, I can usually find something to appreciate.

I was finally able to settle on three specific songs that are a huge turn off for me. In fact, I will likely change the radio station if one of these songs come on, that's how much I despise them. I'm honestly not even sure if there is something specific about each one that I don't like. I just know they don't appeal to me at all.

So let's get started!

Although I knew who KISS was, I wasn't really introduced to them until much later in my life. I knew a couple of their hits, but for me, I could never quite get past the "schtick" of them. The makeup and antics were a huge misdirect for me. Then I got invited to one of their shows by my friend @diamonddave, and after that I really started to appreciate the band a bit more.

They actually put on a fantastic live show, and while back in the day many of their songs would have been considered edgy, I think they are some decent pop/rock hits now. The one exception would be the ballad "Beth". It's not even the fact that it is a ballad that turns me off. I know plenty of hair metal ballads that I love. Bon Jovi made a bit of a living doing ballads as a hair band.

There's just something about Beth that annoys me. I don't know if it is the way it is delivered or the way the lead singer sounds singing it, but I just can't stand the song. My friend feels the same way. It's his absolute least favorite KISS song. I guess the good thing is, they have plenty of other ones to make up for it!

I think part of the reason I despise this song and the next one has to do with the fact that they have been miserably over-played on popular radio. There's actually a lot about the song "Fast Car" that I should love. I've always been pretty open about the fact that I like songs that tell a story. This one actually tells a pretty compelling story though a bit sad. I just can't seem to get into it though.

I don't think it has anything to do with Tracy Chapman specifically, though I don't think I have ever heard any of her other music. The recent cover by Luke Combs does appeal to me a bit more than the original, but not enough that I wouldn't still turn the radio station if the song came on.

If I had to really break it down, I think there is just something about the melody that is a real turn off for me. I don't like the way it sounds and the way it fits together.

If that last one surprised you, this one will probably surprise you even more. I think part of the reason I don't like "Break Even" by The Script is definitely because the song was overplayed to death on the radio. I also think a big part of it has to do with how catchy it is. Not in a good way either. I was trying to come up with songs for this post and when I landed on Break Even, it was immediately stuck in my head. Since I basically hate the song, that is a bad thing.

I'm sure The Script is a good band with a handful of talented members, but based on my loathing of Break Even, I have never bothered to give any of their other stuff a listen. It's kind of a shame that one song could totally turn me off from a band like that, but here we are.

In fact, usually for these posts I play a bit of the videos I am sharing to make sure they sound and look okay. I didn't do that this morning because I have zero desire to hear any of these three songs on this fine Tuesday morning. That's like just begging for your day to be ruined!

I had to read this post properly (now there's something new).., to get the gist.. πŸ˜€.., the Kiss track looks ridiculous.. all that make-up, it doesn't fit the theme as you say.

Stutter was their best, and a very early track by them IMO..

Fast Car makes me think of razor blades and how to use them inappropriately, and I don't know the last song. Not so popular here maybe?

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I know you are a busy man! No worries!

I'm with you, I can't stand any of those three songs either... Beth has always been one song from KISS that I just can't stand, I like pretty much all of their other songs. I got introduced to them later as well, I was a younger kid when they were really big. Too bad they retired, but at their ages I can't blame them.

The other two were played to death to the point that I don't even like hearing them. Kind of the same with Rick Martin and Livin the Vida Loca... Nice TTT, of songs you don't like. A great take!

I never liked American Idol much myself, oh well!

We actually prefer The Voice, but we kind of stopped watching that too. It's pretty rare that I find a song I hate, so I figured they needed some special attention!

I blame Paula Abdul for popularizing the use of autotuners.

Oh I loved Tracy Chapman, what a voice. She lucked out big time when Stevie Wonder had tech problems for Nelson Mandela's 70th birthday concert in London and she stepped in and played Fast Car. Instant hit, she has done quite a lot over the years. Thank you for this one and she is due a ttt on her own,
Kiss are Kiss but I was never a big fan and the last one have never heard of.
Lol what on earth made you do this 🀣

I wanted to do something a little different. It's easy to gush over songs you love, I wanted to go against the grain this week! I'm glad you enjoyed the songs. I can appreciate the story around Fast Car, but I still can't stand it!

Hehe it was all over the place here.
It was a different thing to do alright!

You just made me go look up Randy Jackson as I had no idea he was so thin now :D

Yeah, good for him I guess, but he still just looks a bit fake.

Wow.

Haven't heard of this song by The Script before, but I do like the band.

They do make a lot of catchy tunesπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
