More than just Sin City

When you say Nevada, the first thing that most people probably think about is Las Vegas. I mean the town is pretty much synonymous with the state. In fact, if you were to look at a map, you would probably be hard pressed to find another city in Nevada that is nearly as big as Vegas. Of course, the capital of Nevada is Carson City which you have to zoom in pretty close to even find. Then of course we have Reno, but I'll get to that in a bit.

I've said this before, but I've been to Nevada three times in my life. All of them were to Vegas, but one of my favorite memories is the time we rented a car and actually got outside of Vegas and saw some of the countryside around Nevada. Of course, Nevada is a huge state, so our day trip only took us through a small portion of it, but we still got to see some really awesome things.

With Nebraska in our rear view mirror, we now move along to Nevada (obviously). For this state, the trouble wasn't finding three songs to share with you today for #threetunetuesday sponsored by @ablaze. Instead, the big issues was narrowing it down to the three songs that I wanted to share. There are just so many. In this case, there are two that specifically reference Reno, Nevada, which is why I made a point of mentioning it earlier. As for the other one, it is just a classic song that you may have never heard before.

In addition to that, I wanted to keep my streak going of seeing how many songs I could share for different states by the same artist. I'll get to that in a second though.

So let's get to it!

If you have been following me for a while, you should know that Counting Crows is no stranger to this series. In fact, I would venture to guess that Counting Crows is probably one of my most used bands for Three Tune Tuesday. They might not be right at the top of the list, but they are up there. I'll be a bit honest, the video for "Palisades Park" isn't the easiest to watch. It's got some themes that a lot of people might find hard to watch. You have to remember though, this song is quite a bit older than you might realize and while some people might immediately shutter it to the bin of woke crap, there are some heavy themes in there that people struggle with on a daily basis.

As I said, there is a reference to Reno Nevada in there if you take the time to listen. It's a great song with an interesting story, though Counting Crows is always know for telling interesting stories. That's part of what I love about them.

Next, we have a song from The Pretenders called "Turf Accountant Daddy". Again, if you have been following me for a while, you know that I am a pretty big fan of The Pretenders as well. I think they are one of the greatest groups of the last 100 years to be honest. They are just that awesome with a lot of tongue in cheek and a gritty edge that makes them super cool. Plus they have some pretty amazing lyrics too if you listen really closely. Okay, maybe not so much in this song, but they are there, trust me.

The Nevada reference in this song comes in the chorus where they specifically call out Reno Nevada once again. I have never actually been to Reno, but @mrsbozz has an aunt who used to live there and it's only recently that she moved back to Michigan.

There's nothing super special about "Turf Accountant Daddy", I just think it is a cool song by a cool band that fits the theme for this week. Now I'll move along to the third song that has Nevada in the title or lyrics. Actually, both in this case.

Though Billy Joel has os so many hits, he also has a ton of songs that a lot of people probably have never heard before. That would definitely be the case with this last song I am going to share today. Billy Joel is probably one of my most shared artists in the Three Tune Tuesday theme. He just has a ton of songs that fit into each of the themes that I have been sharing. While "Stop in Nevada" is the latest song I share of his, I guarantee it won't be the last song of his that you see in my blog.

I'm still really bummed that @mrsbozz and I didn't get to see him in concert when he was touring with Stevie Nicks. Of course, I'd rather he get healthy, but it was still a major bummer that he had to have the medical issues. It feels a bit selfish to say that, but we were really looking forward to it.

So there you go. I have a lot of catching up to do still from the long holiday weekend. Check back next week when we move along through the "N's".

I loved every second in Nevada, the scenery is awesome.
Funnily enough I did Simple Minds today, and Jim Kerr their lead singer was married to a certain female lead from The Pretenders!

I actually just found that out this past weekend. I think she was one of the people who convinced them to record "Don't You Forget About Me". They weren't going to because they were focusing on only recording their own material or something like that.

They were pretty tight and I am sure we're great friends even after they partied romantically.
