Death and Taxes 2025

PXL_20250412_210322573.jpg

They say there are only two things that are guaranteed in life... death, and taxes. Today is April 15th and if you live in the US and you aren't a billionaire, a kid, or an illegal immigrant, that means your taxes are due today. I had my taxes done quite some time ago, but despite that, those two constants still hit pretty close to home today.

After putting in a morning of work, @mrsbozz and I are taking the rest of the day off to go to the funeral of my grandfather. It's actually not going to be a proper funeral, he passed away a week or two ago and since they lived down in Georgia, they needed to fly the body up to Michigan for the ceremony. I've been told it's going to be relatively short (not that it matters to me), but it definitely has me contemplating some things.

In fact, I was awake at 1:30 AM last night for quite some time going through a lot of thoughts about life, the universe, and everything else. Some of them were quite dark and I did my best to follow the advice of @dbooster where I acknowledge the thoughts, but then let them move along. I think I got maybe an hour of sleep before I had to get up at 4:30 AM. I'm still a work in progress...

PXL_20250413_004704804.jpg

The one benefit I got from all that late night thinking, was it gave me the inspiration for this post. Besides the fact that it is the 15th of April, it is also Tuesday, and that means it's time for a #threetunetuesday post sponsored by @ablaze.

In case you haven't guessed it, the theme for today is death and taxes. Pretty fitting right? I've got some good ones for you today, so I hope you are ready!

If you asked someone what the most played song at a funeral was, they would probably tell you it was something like Amazing Grace. That's what I would have guessed until I discovered this little tidbit of information quite some time ago. It turns out the most played song at funerals is actually "My Way" by Frank Sinatra. I don't know if that is still accurate today, but at one point in time it was (according to the Internet). In fact, I remember when I first started working in the small town where I do, the head of the local funeral home reached out to me because he needed a copy of "My Way" and he figured me being a tech guy I could get my hands on it somehow.

I did...

For me, there is a different classic that I would probably have played at my funeral when the occasion arises. It would be some version of "I'll Be Seeing You". I picked the Billie Holiday version for this post because it is so iconic, but really any version will do. Despite my love of this style of music, this song only came on my radar thanks to the show Star Trek Deep Space Nine. There was an episode where this song played quite a prominent role for several residents of the space station, and I will always remember it because of that.

If you ever get the chance to go see Jason Isbell live, you should totally do that. If you are lucky, he will sing the song "If We Were Vampires". It's one of my favorites of his and it is deeply moving and meaningful if you really listen to the lyrics. It also fits really well with the theme this week.

I honestly haven't put a ton of thought into it, but it is very possible this is another song that I would likely have played at my funeral one day. It would mostly be for my wife, but still, it's a good song and everyone else can just suffer along if they don't like it.

"Likely one of us will have to spend some days alone"

That's the line that really gets me. It's just a really well written song. If you need a little something to pick you up after listening to this song, I've got just what you need...

Many years ago my sister got married and the guy that she got married to has a sister of his own. Are you following me so far? Now, my brother in law's sister married a guy who just happened to be in a band called the LP Outsiders. So, given the fact that this post isn't just about death, it is also about taxes, I felt like "Lint In My Pockets" would be a perfect song to close things out.

The band isn't together anymore, but my brother in law's brother in law is still making music and at one point he was even one of the potential nominees for a Grammy. This song was actually also included in the soundtrack for the movie Three To Tango starring the late Matthew Perry, Neve Campbell, and Dylan McDermott.

Anyway, it's kind of sad that the LP Outsiders didn't stay together, they had a really cool sound, but those things happen I guess.

Hopefully this tax season doesn't leave you with just lint in your pockets, or the other alternative I talked about here today...

Thank you. It's been a weird week as my grandma put it.

I hope you get some sleep and some not so dark thoughts. Death is always a time for reflection I find. Luckily when my body needs sleep I sleep, that is the one advantage of not sleeping much with my arthritis. When I finally sleep there are no thoughts.

0.00086313 BEE

It has been an interesting day for sure. I hope I can get some sleep tonight, I am quite tired after today's events.

0.00000000 BEE

Don't billionaires pay taxes too? If they don't then they should not get any respect. I know some say they are happy to pay more.

0.00086312 BEE

No, they get out of it somehow. Either that or they pay a lot less than the regular people do.

0.00001547 BEE

I think they can pay a lower rate than most of us and make use of various schemes, but they should be exposed. Did Trump ever publish his tax details? I suspect he will do deals for his rich friends and Musk will control the data. They are not working for normal folk.

0.00086313 BEE

I hate filing my taxes. I get screwed every year being self employed. Uncle Sam can kiss my 🍑.

0.00086149 BEE

My friend feels the same way! I can sympathize!

0.00000000 BEE

Taxes of course first, then you're allowed to die...

Billie Holiday was so awesome, and Frank with My Way... Great music!

Jason is new to me, but he is good. He has one seriously sweet guitar, the second I saw that I was jealous! Very good find, I'll be checking him out this week. Last one was good too, but many bands don't stick together. Just look at GNR...

Thinking of doing another Aussie band next week from the 80's, Icehouse. I've been on an Australian music kick lately!

0.00086081 BEE

Icehouse sounds familiar to me for sure. Another one I hadn't heard of before that I just learned about is Vandenburg. Good stuff there. Jason can absolutely shred. I was familiar with him before, but it wasn't until I saw him live that I realized just how talented he is. His bands cover of Honeysuckle Blue is one of my favorite tunes of his.

As a teenager, I worked with a Lady who was 80 years old, helping her around the house as she was in a wheelchair. She was pretty cool, and very bright. She had her funeral all played out, but wouldn't tell me about what it was, but always chuckled when we talked about it in our conversations about death. When the funeral started, I knew why - she had picked Vivaldi's "Spring" as opening. That wasn't all, she also had recorded one of her favorite poems with her own voice. I almost laughed out loud, but was able to restrain myself. Nobody else seemed to have found it ironic, which was very "her". Maybe nobody had had conversations about death with her, besides the inheritance.

On taxes: I only pay 2% of income tax plus 15% VAT on non-basic-need-goods. So I will never complain. My brother pays around 42% income and 19% VAT in Germany. I use that as a reference and try to put 40% of my income away for all the benefits that he has (health care etc.) and I don't.

0.00086075 BEE

The bracket I am in here in the US is right around 30% I think. That's pretty much the standard it seems. Of course you have variations based on income and dependents and things like that. That is a funny story about the lady. I don't think I will have anything that elaborate. My wife and I have started working on our estate planning, but we haven't gotten to the funeral plans piece yet. Hopefully we have some time!

I hope the same for you, too! 😅

A Wake-Up Call: Accountability and Redemption in the Hive Ecosystem

To those who believe their actions on the Hive blockchain go unnoticed, it’s time to confront the truth. The power you think you wield through downvotes, vote farming, and manipulation is an illusion. True strength lies in doing what’s right, not in exploiting systems for personal gain or silencing others out of fear.

1. The Illusion of Power Through Exploitation

If you’re downvoting critics, running coordinated farms, or hoarding influence to control rewards, ask yourself: What does this say about your character? Manipulating Hive’s reward system doesn’t make you powerful—it exposes vulnerabilities. It shows a reliance on unethical tactics to feel significant in a space that was meant to empower everyone equally.

But here’s the reality: these actions won’t bring lasting satisfaction. At night, when you’re alone with your thoughts, do you truly believe what you’re doing is right? Regret has a way of lingering, and no amount of HIVE tokens can silence the voice inside telling you there’s a better path.

2. The Ripple Effect of Your Actions

Your choices don’t just harm Hive—they affect the people around you. Your online friends may follow along now, but loyalty built on shaky foundations crumbles quickly. And what about your family? Do they understand how much energy you pour into behaviors that ultimately hurt others and yourself?

Every action has consequences, and the deeper you dig, the harder it becomes to climb out. You’re not just harming Hive—you’re pulling those close to you into a cycle of negativity and regret. Is it worth it?

3. Change Before It’s Too Late

The Bilpcoin team isn’t here to attack individuals—we’re here to spark change. We’ve seen the evidence, and we know the impact of manipulative practices. But we also believe in redemption. There’s still time to step back, reflect, and choose a different path.

Ask yourself:

  • What legacy do you want to leave on Hive?
  • How will you feel years from now looking back at how you treated others?
  • Wouldn’t it feel better to contribute positively rather than exploit and divide?

Hive deserves better. So do you.

4. Strength Lies in Doing What’s Right

Real power comes from integrity, not manipulation. Instead of focusing on how many tokens you can farm or how many users you can silence, consider how you can add value to the ecosystem. Create meaningful content, support genuine contributors, and advocate for reforms that benefit everyone—not just a select few.

If you continue down your current path, remember this: you are being watched. Many stay silent, but they see everything. Blockchain data doesn’t lie, and accountability always comes knocking—whether today, tomorrow, or years from now.

5. A Final Plea: Fix What Needs Fixing

It’s never too late to change course. Stop the farming, stop the toxicity, and start contributing to Hive in ways that uplift rather than tear down. If you’re struggling with why you’ve chosen this path, take a moment to reflect. Seek help if needed—there’s no shame in admitting you’ve lost your way.

The Hive community is watching, waiting, and hoping for positive change. Will you rise to the occasion, or will you let regret define your journey? The choice is yours.

From the Bilpcoin Team: We’re committed to helping Hive thrive by exposing the truth and fostering transparency. Let’s work together to build a stronger, fairer ecosystem—one where everyone has a chance to succeed.

What will your next move be?

Addressing the Downvote Issue on Hive: It’s Time for Real Change

Marky Mark Stop the manipulation game Lady Zaza Bpc AI Music

Let’s cut through the noise and address one of the most pressing issues holding Hive back from reaching its full potential: abusive downvotes. The Bipcoin team has consistently exposed the systemic problems that stifle growth on this platform, yet little to no action has been taken. If Hive is to thrive, we must confront these challenges head-on instead of engaging in empty discussions that lead nowhere.

Hive cannot grow if nothing changes. How can new users and smaller creators flourish when they are constantly suppressed by those who exploit the system? Many so-called “whales” contribute nothing meaningful to the ecosystem—instead, they focus solely on farming rewards through manipulative tactics like mass self-voting, spam content, or coordinated downvoting campaigns. These actions discourage genuine participation and erode trust within the community.

Blockchain transactions don’t lie. We’ve seen firsthand the shady methods used to game the system—whether it’s creating alt accounts to amplify votes, orchestrating downvote brigades, or hoarding influence without giving back to the network. Why does this behavior continue unchecked? Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words, and until concrete steps are taken to address these abuses, Hive will struggle to move forward.

We have repeatedly presented evidence of these practices, not to divide but to demand accountability. The truth is out there for anyone willing to look at the data. Yet, despite our efforts, the cycle persists. Today, we’re asking again: Can we finally talk about the real issues plaguing Hive? And more importantly, can we take decisive action to protect the integrity of this platform?

Do not let bullies destroy what makes Hive special. Abuse of power through downvotes and manipulation harms everyone—creators, curators, and the community as a whole. It’s time to fight back against these toxic practices and create an environment where all voices can be heard and rewarded fairly.

The Bipcoin team remains committed to exposing the truth and advocating for meaningful change. But we can’t do it alone. Together, let’s push for solutions that ensure Hive becomes a place of opportunity, fairness, and growth—for everyone.

Enough talk. Let’s see action.

Every curation reward from @buildawhale’s bot votes:

  • Steals from creators.
  • Centralizes power.
  • Normalizes abuse.

The blockchain doesn’t forget—your actions are permanently recorded. So, enjoy your scam farm snacks now, because karma always delivers the bill.
