Crossing the finish line

I can hardly believe that we have come this far. It seems like just a short time ago we were buckling in for our musical road trip across the United States and now here we are just about a year later rolling into the final stop with Wyoming. Wyoming is another one of those states I have never been to, but I hope to visit someday soon. Honestly, I'm not sure if there is any state I haven't been to that I don't want to visit one day. Maybe one of the Dakotas? No, I still think I would like to visit both of those one day. Sadly for me, the two I have the least chance of visiting are the two that are probably just about the coolest... Hawaii and Alaska.

As long as I have breath, there is still hope though, so I am going to hold onto that.

The good news is, Wyoming was a pretty easy state to find songs for #threetunetuesday. I thought this one was going to be a lot harder than it was, but as I got looking, I turns out it is actually quite easy. There are certainly a lot of songs that reference Cheyenne, but thankfully, a few of those also reference the state where Cheyenne resides as well.

Needless to say, it will probably come as no surprise to you that the majority of songs I am going to share today are country songs. There is just that vibe you get with Wyoming that makes you think of country music. Maybe it's the mountains or something about the plains. I don't know.

The good news is, I have been gathering up a lot of really good music over the past year while I have been doing these posts, so even though we might not be rolling through the US with a specific theme, I still have a lot of great music to share with you in the future.

This won't be the last Three Tune Tuesday post you see from me!

So let's get to it!

Of course, I need to start things off with King George. I got the chance to see George Strait a few years ago when he was down in Ohio at the Buckeye Country Music Festival. It was an awesome show. It's one of those shows where it isn't really visually exceptional, he basically just stands in front of you with his guitar and sings. However, being able to just take in all of his great songs in person is truly amazing. I went to school with a girl who was absolutely in love with George Strait. I'm still friends with her on social media and I can promise you she has been to at least 50 of his shows over the past 40 years.

"I can still make Cheyenne" is a sad song about a rodeo man doing what rodeo men do. There have been countless songs about men picking the rodeo lifestyle over their women and what that can do to a relationship. In fact, the next song I am going to share has a really similar theme if you listen really closely. It would seem that Wyoming is as synonymous with rodeos as it is with Devil's Tower and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Oh wait, they changed the name back to Mato Tipila as it should be. That's my bad.

One of my biggest regrets in life is that I had the chance to get tickets to see Garth Brooks at Notre Dame when he played there and I passed up the chance because I thought it was going to be too far to drive and it was in the middle of the school year. Trust me, I am totally kicking myself now. While Garth remains on our bucket list of artists we would like to see, as the years tick by, I fear that we are going to end up never seeing him similar to Billy Joel whom we had tickets for, but then they cancelled the show. Word on the street now is that he is done performing forever.

Ugh!

Nevertheless, here is another song about a woman and a rodeo man that takes place along "The Beaches of Cheyenne". I'll be honest, when I think of lakes, I don't really think of Wyoming. In fact, I had to Google if there are actually any beaches in Cheyenne or if that was just a metaphor in the song. It turns out there are a few lakes and reservoirs in the vicinity of the city. Clearly nothing like we have in Michigan, but a lake is a lake, and a beach is a beach.

This is one of Garth's all time greats, and you better believe if I ever get the chance to see him live again, I am not going to pass it up this time.

Finally, the last song I am going to share with you trades that country vibe for dirty southern rock with the Black Crowes singing "Wyoming and Me". I got the chance to see The Black Crowes a few months ago now and it was an absolutely amazing show. They still sound really good even being as old as they are now. Actually, all of the artists I shared today are getting up there and from what I have heard, they all sound really great still.

This isn't one of the songs that the Black Crowes played for our concert. Believe it or not, they are still coming out with new music and they played some of those songs in between all of their hits while we were at the show. It was a fantastic night except for some of the environmental factors that were happening. If you want more info, go back a few months and check out my post.

It feels a bit anticlimactic to end this way, but here we are. Finished up with this series. I don't really have much else to say beyond that. Safe travels to all of you!

Wyoming was one of the main highlights of my American roadtrip the other year, Yellowstone was great despite it being early season when we went

I really need to get out that way. I'd love to explore the Tetons.
