Choosing Texas
A short time ago my sister in law and I both turned 50. In the lead up to this momentous birthday, my wife kept asking us where we wanted to go to celebrate. Neither of us was really able to make a decision, so we kind of just let it go for a while. Then a month or so ago the topic came back up and it appeared that my sister in law was ready to make some firm plans. After bouncing a few ideas back and forth between the four of us, we ultimately decided on taking a trip down to Texas.
I've been close to Texas before, but I have never been to the state, so if I was writing this post a month and a half later than I am right now, I would have a lot more visuals for you. Instead, the best I can do for you is some photos of a cow farm that we took as we were heading out to Colorado a few years ago.
They say that Texas is the land of beef, so I thought this might be the best way to represent the state for my #threetunetuesday post. They also say that everything is bigger in Texas, but that isn't going to be the case with this post. I'm in the middle of some stuff right now that has me away from my computer for quite a bit and being able to even write a post like this is a rare occasion.
So rather than meandering about like the Red River, I am going to just share the songs with you and get on with it.
Although this song is the one that blew up really big for her, I have been a fan of Ella Langley for quite a while now. I have a few of her other albums saved as playlists and she has been making some really good music for years. I think the one good thing about "Choosing Texas" becoming such a hit is the fact that now a bunch of people will be exposed to that other music of hers that has been around for a while now. It's like discovering a new artists for the first time.
She has a very cool singer songwriter vibe in the same vein as Kacey Musgraves. I think they are both able to turn a really clever lyric and they have a kind of monotone voice that still has a lot of depth, but can illicit a specific mood all at the same time. Ella is definitely on the list of artists I would like to see live at some point.
Having never been to Texas, I don't think I can imagine the same level of pride that people seem to have about their state. I can relate to it know how much I love my home state of Michigan, but many would lead you to believe there is something extra special about Texas.
Perhaps after I finally take my trip there I will be able to attest to what they say. With that in mind, "That's Right, You're Not From Texas" is a song I have always found a bit humorous and fun. Perhaps there next slogan will be "It's a Texas thing, you wouldn't understand".
Finally, I'm going to leave you with a song from a great 80's/90's country band called Little Texas. They had this song called "God Blessed Texas" that was one of their biggest hits as well as a lot of other really good songs from that era. If you really like what you hear from them, you should check out a lot of their other stuff. They have a greatest hits album that is really good.

You're absolutely going to love Austin. There are a few ranches scattered even around the airport filled with longhorn cattle. They probably won't be there much longer though as quickly as that area is growing. Just bring lots of sunscreen and be prepared to roast. I almost couldn't believe how hot it still was in early November last year.
Oh boy, I don't handle heat well and my wife is allergic to the sun, so this could be bad.
It was my first time there and coming from a place that already had snow on the ground kind of altered my perception of what it would be like. : ) I was forced to be outside during the peak heat on the day of the shareholder event but it cooled down nicely at night. Early morning/late afternoon was definitely the time to be outside.
Texas has always seemed like a very interesting place to me, and after reading your post I feel even more curious to visit it someday 😅. Hope you have a great trip, and of course, great music choices 🎶
