In A Hole
After a long day of softball, both the Dragons and the Highlanders find themselves on the verge of elimination. First of all, I want to talk about just how cool those mascots are. I think my nieces did really well when they were deciding which university to attend. My university mascot was the cardinal, and while they are pleasant birds, they don't really have that cool factor like Dragons and Highlanders.
Tiffin started their NCAA Division 2 tournament game against the University of Indianapolis yesterday at 12:00 PM. Unfortunately, some weather moved through and they had to delay the game by almost five hours before they could start playing again. It was a tight match up that went into extra innings before U of I finally got a 2 to 1 lead over Tiffin and held that through the 9th inning to win the game.
The good news is, it is a double elimination tournament, so the Dragons still have a chance today at 3:00 PM to see if they can stay alive in the tournament. I've noticed over the last couple of games that their bats don't seem to be quite as hot as they were earlier in the season. That could be a problem for them moving forward. I'm honestly not sure a lot of the ladies expected to find themselves here at the end of the season and they might be a little tired.
Meanwhile, in the Big South tournament, Radford also had a long day going 11 innings against Winthrop before losing the game 7 to 4. While Winthrop was a number 4 seed, they still have a chance today when they face a number 2 seed Longwood team at 2:30 PM.
It kind of doesn't matter to be honest. Radford has already won a 4 seed in the Clemson Regional bracket by winning their regular season conference championship. They might decide to just focus on preparing for that. With power teams like Oklahoma State, Indiana, and Clemson in their same division, it's going to be some tough competition for them.
All I know is I can't wait to watch! Plus, I get to head down to Ohio this weekend to watch my other niece play some softball. It should be a great time!
