Family, how are you? How are you? Welcome to this recap of NXT Homecoming.
This special episode began with the appearance of Triple H, greeted with a tremendous ovation from the crowd. Triple H says it feels great to be back home. He reminds us that this place is very important to the brand's history and that everything that happens in NXT is special. As are its fans, both those in the arena and those watching from home.
He says the fans are the reason NXT exists, that it all started with a very small whisper, but the crowd turned it into an undeniable roar.
Suddenly, chef Shawn Michaels appeared, also greeted with a tremendous welcome. He says he's glad to have his friend home, especially considering how busy he is, signing multi-million dollar contracts and generating tons of income. He also says he's more than ready to run NXT, and Triple H left him speechless, saying he wouldn't rule out a return to the brand.
William Regal suddenly appeared to interrupt them both, saying there's only one way to solve this, and then he yelled his classic "War Games."
Then the Women's Tag Team Champions appeared. They said it was the women who had always been in charge of the brand. They recalled some very important names like Paige, Asuka, Carmella, and a few others. Alexa Bliss said that women had always been the mainstay of NXT and that if anyone had a different opinion, she could just say, "Sock It!"
Before the first match, we saw a brief encounter between Tatum Paxley and Lyra Valkyrie, and it certainly wouldn't be the last of the night.
The match that opened this special program was for the women's tag team titles. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss were defending them against the new challengers, The Cullings.
Tatum Paxley and Ichi Dam were coming off a triple threat tag team elimination match that gave them this title opportunity at Homecoming.
I thought the match was fulfilling, I think that's the right word. There was a massive power difference. It was literally impossible for the champions to lose the titles here. And despite the distractions from the rest of The Cullings, Alexa Bliss was able to connect with her Sister Abigail and get the three count to retain the tag team championships.
We continued with more tag team matches, this time for men. Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes teamed up after a long time to face one of the most iconic teams in NXT history: DIY.
Tommaso Ciampa entered first with his face painted, followed by Johnny Gargano with his classic song Rebel Heart. The four put on a very entertaining match. At first glance, DIY had the advantage, especially since Melo and Trick still haven't fully forgiven each other.
The balance was tilted in DIY's favor until The Miz appeared and hit Gargano with a Skull Crushing Finale outside the ring, allowing Carmelo Hayes to finish him off and give his team the victory. The whole thing ended with The Miz celebrating with both Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams on the ramp.
This episode was a spectacle far removed from the usual NXT reality. With so much presence from the main roster, it became one of the most incredible shows of the year.
