Jon Felix Anthony Cena Junior was born on April 23, 1977, in West New Port, Massachusetts. Cena began training to be a professional wrestler at just 21 years old in Ultimate Pro Wrestling under the ring name Prototype. There, he won the UPW Heavyweight Championship, reigning for 27 days in 2000. The following year, he left the promotion in search of new horizons.
Although he belonged to the UPW, on October 10, 2000, he made his unofficial WWF debut at a SmackDown taping, where he lost to Mick Wickertson. In 2001, he signed a developmental contract with WWE, joining Ohio Valley Wrestling as The Prototype, where he was the Ultimate Wrestling and Tag Team Champion.
On June 27, 2002, he made his television debut on SmackDown, responding to Kurt Angle's open challenge. Despite losing, he caught the attention of management and teammates like Undertaker, who saw a future in him. He immediately began to gain public support, facing off against rivals such as Chris Jericho, Chavo Guerrero, and Eddie Guerrero.
In 2005, Cena won a tournament to challenge for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 21. That night, he defeated JBL and became WWE Champion for the first time. He was transferred to Raw, where he defended the title against Christian, Chris Jericho, and Triple H. Although fan reaction began to be divided, he established himself as a star figure.
Currently dedicated to film, Cena is considered a living wrestling legend.
16-time world champion
5-time US champion
4-time tag team champion
2-time Royal Rumble winner
1-time Money in the Bank winner
Beyond the titles, he left behind great rivalries, memorable matches, and a special connection with the public. Although he was hated for many years, today he has gone from hatred to respect.
Many of us grew up watching John Cena wrestle, and there's no doubt he's become a legend. I know we missed a lot to mention in a career as extensive as his.
