Good day, hivers! How does first quarter have been? Well, it was tiring, stressful and exhausting so far but activities like this made it enjoyable also. Today, I will be sharing my first ever laboratory experience all my entire school life. Taking STEM strand, this is what I am anticipating the most, doing some laboratory expirements even though I am not that knowledgeable and good about it. So, let's start!
THE EQUIPMENTS
Of course, before going into the lab and performing different kind of scientific works, we need also to familiar first the equipments that we will be using in order for us to maintain proper execution and of course for our safety.
This are the equipments we are going to use, some of it are called funnel, beaker, stirring rod, wire gauze, graduated cylinders, vials, evaporating dish and others I couldn't remember anymore.
SEPARATING SEAWATER HETEREGENOUS AND HOMOGENOUS MIXTURE THROUGH FILTRATION AND EVAPORATION
My group divided the three task and I was assigned in the separation techniques, filtration and evaporation. I honestly thought it was hard at first but along the way, I enjoyed it very much.
So first, we did the filtration method using funnel, beaker, and a filtration paper. We poured the 30 ml seawater into the filtration paper and waited until it successfully finished.
After that, we then measure our filtrate and poured it into the evaporating dish above the wire gauze and heated it for about 20 minutes and waited for it until it evaporate.
I was very amazed about its results because we successfully separate all the substances of a one mixture and kind of hoping we could do it again.
SEPARATING THE COMPONENTS OF AN INK THROUGH PAPER CHROMATOGRAPHY
I wasn't very knowledgeable about this one since I didn't really focused on this but seeing it slowly separates just by putting the paper's tips into the liquid substance is very amazing and had a nice colors that came out.
SEPARATING THE COMPONENTS OF EVAPORATED MILK THROUGH CENTRIFUGATION
This method is quite easy since there is a specific machine called centrifuge that could make this separation possible. We just put the evaporated milk into the vial and placed it inside the machine and waited until 20 minutes and it turned out like this. This was what I am very amazed of because I have never seen evaporated milk's substance being separated all my life.
AFTER THE ACTIVITY
It was an amazing experience after all, and my mind couldn't process anything aside from the fact that I would love to try and experience it again because I love when my curiousity being fed.
That's all, dear hivers! Thanks for passing by!
Nakakamiss mag-laboratory hehe.
