The Old Relic tries a New Relic from Stewart Brewing in Edinburgh

(edited)

Hello Hivians and all you beer lovers.

It's Saturday, which means it's #beersaturday, not that you need an excuse to drink a beer!

New Relic Beer Saturday 430.png

I was in some supermarket the other day when my eyes were drawn to ...

image.png

Yes a beer brewed in my hometown Edinburgh by Stewart Brewing...

Here you go @joanstewart I had this one for you...

But talking of female Hivians and Hivers, this post is also accepting the invitation of @nancybriti1 to have and share a beer.

New Relic from Stewart Brewing

New Relic is a full-flavoured, bitter IPA that showcases the vibrant character of Mosaic hops which are known for their stone fruit and blueberry notes.

New Relic does have a firm bitterness but that’s balanced by a juicy fruit-forward aroma which I love so much.

Style: American IPA (India Pale Ale)

ABV (Alcohol by Volume): 5.6%

IBU (International Bitterness Units): 45 (This indicates it's a moderately bitter IPA, but not overwhelmingly so).

Creamy Tasty head

I was dishing up dinner when I poured the second pint and got a bit of a head on it!

Scotland's Best IPA! Not once but fluffing twice!

New Relic is produced by Stewart Brewing in Loanhead just outside Edinburgh. Loanhead was a wee village that I would go through on the way to school in Edinburgh so have a soft spot for it. It also had an Italian ice cream shop that sold the best ice cream ever!

As per their website ... New Relic is ...

Crafted for hop lovers, New Relic delivers a punch of flavour without compromise, bold, modern, and unapologetically bitter. It’s the kind of IPA that quietly turns heads, and has even been recognised as Scotland’s best IPA, more than once, at the Scottish Beer Awards in both 2021 and 2024. (We’re not bragging, but the judges seemed pretty happy.)

I decided to see what Gemini had to say about Dorothy Black ...

  • Overall Profile: New Relic is a full-flavored, hop-forward IPA that aims to be both bold and approachable. It's a great example of a modern, well-balanced IPA that's built for hop lovers.
I love the boldness and that it is Scottish!

  • Aroma: The aroma is strong and vibrant fruity aroma. The defining characteristic of this beer comes from the use of Mosaic hops, which are famous for their complex scent. You'll likely pick up notes of stone fruit (like peach or apricot), blueberry, and citrus.
I found the aromas of the blueberries, perhaps as I have them in my smoothies daily.

  • Appearance: It typically pours a bright, clear golden or amber colour with a firm, white head. It looks clean and inviting.
Very smooth, very creamy and very golden amber

  • Taste: The flavour follows the aroma, with a juicy, fruit-forward taste that highlights the Mosaic hops. You will get those classic stone fruit and blueberry notes, balanced by a firm bitterness that builds slightly on the finish.
Like the aroma I could taste the blueberries and fruits, and it was not bitter at all, but then again I like bitter things!

  • Mouthfeel: It has a crisp and clean mouthfeel with a dry finish, which makes it very drinkable despite the bitterness. It's not overly heavy or syrupy.
I shall add ... making it almost TOO drinkable

My Verdict ... ☑️ Highly recommended!

I fluffing loved it!

A very pleasant drink and at 5.6% it has enough of a wee kick to be refreshingly alcoholic.

Great with food as well and I now have a wee stock of it!

Posting about a beer on a Saturday on the Beer Community ....

It's not to brag, but that beer looks delicious. I feel like having it. How I crave those leftover pasta with meat turned into a taco. A delicious hug, Ed🫂

You'd get that thrown back at you here in the US with a head like that! I'm paying for beer, not for foam! :) No beer for me so far this weekend, just whiskey and rum.

0.00122151 BEE

Hehe yes if I got that in a pub I would be nope, not paying for that lol!
