Thankful for Santa's red IPA!

(edited)

Hello Hivians and all you beer lovers.

It's Saturday, which means it's #beersaturday, not that you need an excuse to drink a beer of course! Are you thankful for beer?

Well I am!

And talking of being thankful, today's post is actually going back to a beer I had last year, on the 4th Thursday of November. Yes as Mrs T is American I have always cooked turkey on that day. We both love it, mind you when she first came here nearly 30 years ago, it was nigh on impossible to find a turkey to cook. Now though, there are frozen ones in the supermarkets from the middle of November onwards!

The beer can caught my eye I won't lie.

A fluffing red Santa hat on a red pint! It had to be done 🤣...

Time for a Love Lane Brewery Santa's Big Red IPA

So the branding got me, I won't lie. I am partial to an IPA and I am partial to a red ale, so how would this red IPA match up?

I saw it when we were out getting some Christmas bargains in Home Bargains and the price was a bargain, I think maybe £1.50 at the very most a can!

The Beer ... 🍺 Love Lane Brewery Santa's Big Red IPA

The Basics

  • Type: Ruby Red IPA
  • Alcohol Content: 5.0% ABV (Alcohol by Volume)
  • Volume: 440ml can
  • Key Flavors: Orange zest, apricot, berry, caramel, and toffee
  • Brewery Location: Liverpool, UK
  • Appearance: A deep ruby/copper red with a thick, cream-coloured head.
  • Hops: It uses a solid mix of Magnum, Idaho 7, Amarillo, and Mosaic. These provide a "zingy" citrus burst of orange zest and apricot, with some tropical fruit notes underneath.
  • Malts: The colour and body come from Crystal Dark and Chocolate malts, which give it those classic festive flavours of caramel, toffee, and a hint of roasted chocolate.

Did it Pair well with food?

My Verdict

Fluffing smooth and I enjoyed it, talk about tasty! I am not sure about the whole red ale versus IPA though. It was a pleasant drink. I am not a proficient enough connoisseur to say anything other than I fluffing loved it!

I do love a red ale and I do love an IPA and I had my first pint whilst I rustled up that homemade mash to go with the turkey and had the second amd subsequent pints whilst eating it 🤣

It went equally well or without food.

The 5.0% was a pleasant strength, and at around a couple of quid a can, it was very good value!

Cheers 🍻🍻🍻

It looks good, and at that price, even better! And I love that you're inviting me for a beer, even if it's from afar and over here. Hugs

I love a good Red IPA. Interesting one of the Christmasy beers we get in Australia is a 'Fat Man, Red Suit, Big Sack' which is a Red IPA - it does suit the season a little better do here in the southern hemisphere though

'Fat Man, Red Suit, Big Sack' is a cool name. Interesting that we get red IPAs around the same time of the year at different ends of the year 🍻

Yeah the can was eye catching, simple but effective, as so many things are. Thank you and I shall have a sip for you when I have it again 😎
