Battered white flakey fish and dark beer, is there a better combination on a winter's day?
Well maybe I am biased as I grew up on the Scottish coast but I love it!
Well that is the official line that I am sticking to!
We had to do a spot of shopping in town and I thought it would be a good idea to grab a bite to eat.
This is Abbotshall and it has recently undergone a big renovation.
It has changed hands a few times and the last time it was open was as a Mexican restaurant.
We could not see a menu on the outside and were not sure what kind of place it was!
We walked in and it was quite swish and they were full!
Out came the charming rascal and if we ordered quickly they could squeeze us in.
My standard question in a pub nowadays is what dark beer do you have ...
Their answer today was Caledonia.
Okay says I, a pint of Caledonia. As you can see it is a creamy pint!
Mrs T had a cup of foam coffee!
It was quite nice the decor and I do love a solid wooden table!
I have lived on the coast most of my life in whichever country I happen to be in.
To me the great British fish and chips is one of the best dishes you can have when out as a standard treat.
Of course living on the coast I love fish, whether it is haddock or cod, the white flakey fish is just perfect.
Coated in a delicious batter and fried, served with chips (not fluffing skinny fries!) peas salad (optional!) and tartare sauce.
Fluffing awesome!
Mrs T had the same and was equally impressed.
Of course you have to have liberal helpings of malt vinegar!
I tell you what, the smooth creaminess of the beer really compliments the soft white flakey fish.
To be honest, Scotland is suffering from an alcohol tax, so they are making their drinks weaker now.
Thankfully it is still a damn fine pint!
You can see the white flakes and thick chips.
I loved the fact they had big roof lights which even though was a grey winter's day was airy in the pub.
It was so smooth the beer, that the second was almost finished.
Funnily enough when I was served the beer, I commented to Mrs T that I used to have a souvenir glass from when Scotland won a grand slam at rugby..
This then vindicated me when I saw the Scottish Rugby logo on the glass.
Same design many years later!
Then it was time to leave!
And then the short walk into town.
As you can see the sea is not far away.
Not far away at all!

This looks delicious. We have a town across the state called Caledonia. I was going to get fish and chips today, but I got a burger instead. I kind of wish I had gotten the fish and chips!
There is no better combination than fish and beer, and if you add a few lemon drops to the fish, even better.
And french fries! I see you had a great Saturday. Greetings to you both.🤗 Olvidaba decirte que me gusta la cerveza y sobre todo bien fría, combina bien con nuestro clima.🍺
