A place that feels just right 🇫🇷🎓 (eng-esp)

I have been studying at the headquarters of the Alliance Française in Santiago de Cuba for many years, and every time I enter here I feel that I am being transported to another place that has nothing to do with my locality.

For those who believe in the art of manifestation, immersion is an important element. Surrounding ourselves with things that make us visible what we want is a plus in our process, and those who designed this learning center internally took it very well into account.

While learning a new language, you should immerse yourself in it too, as well as in the culture of those who speak it. The French Alliance has that. From the first corridor we see many eye-catching posters, and we are usually greeted by a loudspeaker with music in French that enlivens the place. One immediately feels oneself in a new and prestigious place, as is the policy of the institution.

The classrooms are full of desks, posters and even maps of the European region. The quality of the blackboards, the lighting and the climate leave a lot to be desired from the public education system in a place where private schools does not exist.

In addition, there is a special media library where you can check out books, listen to music and watch Francophone films. This also has an area for studying or playing board games with classmates.

Moreover, the Alliance Française is constantly moving in the main circle of culture in the city. Exhibitions, concerts and films are held here, so French culture is almost always present at all the festivals that take place in Santiago de Cuba.

Definitely studying here has always been one of the best learning experiences I have ever had.

Son muchos los años que llevo estudiando en la sede de la Alianza Francesa de Santiago de Cuba, y cada vez que entro aquí siento que estoy siendo transportado hacia otra parte que no tiene nada que ver con mi localidad.

Para quienes creen en el arte de la manifestación, la inmersión es un elemento importante. Rodearnos de cosas que nos hagan visibilizar eso que queremos es un plus en nuestro proceso, y quienes diseñaron internamente este centro de aprendizaje lo tuvieron muy bien en cuenta.

Mientras aprendes un idioma nuevo, debes sumergirte en él también, así como en la cultura de quienes lo hablan. La Alianza Francesa tiene eso. Desde el primer pasillo vemos muchos carteles llamativos, y por lo general nos recibe un altoparlante con música en francés que ameniza el lugar. Uno se siente de inmediato en un lugar nuevo y de prestigio, tal y como es la política de la institución.

Los salones de clases están llenos de pupitres, afiches e incluso mapas de la región europea. La calidad de los pizarrones, la iluminación y el clima dejan mucho que desear del sistema educativo público en un lugar en donde no existe la educación privada.

Además, existe una mediateca especial en la que se pueden extraer libros, escuchar música y ver filmes francófonos. Esta también tiene un área para estudiar o jugar juegos de mesa con los compañeros de clase.

Por otra parte, la Alianza Francesa se mueve constantemente en el círculo principal de la cultura en la ciudad. Aquí se realizan exposiciones, conciertos y se proyectan filmes, por lo que la cultura francesa casi siempre está presente en todos los festivales que tienen lugar en Santiago de Cuba.

Definitivamente estudiar aquí ha sido desde siempre una de las mejores experiencias de aprendizaje que he tenido jamás.
