A couple of days ago I started a post that read:
Hive needs better feeds! Let’s build a custom Curation tool! (fundraiser)
If I say so myself it is an interesting read which received quite a lot of positive reactions in the comments. But for those who don't want to read the entire blog, I'll sum it up:
I would really advise you to read the first posts, but this is a small recap.
As I mentioned before, there were quite a lot of comments on the first blog. It's really good to see that this is a subject that lives among more Hivers.
Where I began the idea of having a curation tool, a couple of people commented that the problem is more than curating alone (@quark.top, @steevc). It's content discovery that is a problem. And yes, this is a problem when you are curating, but also when you are looking for content to consume or interact with.
The tool does still work the same for both goals, but that is why I made a slight adjustment in the title and the banner.
I've received a lot of feedback on the first blog. Thank you all for that.
Some of the things that were metioned were integration in front-ends, hosting of the website, making it a HAF app etc.
I've passed some technical questions on to @ecoinstant which was traveling in the past days, so didn't have a lot of time to react to them, but he will surely look into it.
There was also a comment from @por500bolos who shared some screenshot of a former tool that seems to have done the same. We'll have to see if there is still code available of that tool.
We've received quite a few donations on the last fundraiser blog already. Thank you all for your generous gifts:
@quark.top, @meno, @detlev, @ph1102, @ifarmgirl-leo, @oldmans, @v-36, @ladyaryastark, @palomap and shanibeer
We've collected a total of $37.62 in donations. That makes we have reached 1/3 of the targeted $100 to get @ecoinstant to start building.
We are not there yet, but the first funds have been transferred to @ecoinstant
Let's make some more fuzz about this project. There must be more Hivers that like this idea and would like to contribute 1 or a couple more dollars to get this project started.
For those who want I have created a link to the TipJar tool. It's default configured with $1, but you can adjust the amount. It works with a Hive Keychain signing method.
https://thecrazygm.com//hivetools/give/friendlymoose/1/HBD/HiveCurationTool
I've also created some Hivesigner links:
1 HBD
3 HBD
5 HBD
7.5 HBD
10 HBD
Besides that you can also send a tip via PeakD in HBD or Hive.
We appreciate all donations! Let's work together to achieve the goal of $100 to start off the building of this tool.
Althoug we haven't worked out an entire plan yet. We first wanted to see if more people would be interested in such a tool. But by the comments and donations on after the first blog, we may conclude that there is an interest. Although we still need 2/3 of the $100 we wanted to raise to get the project started, we have the idea to start out with a Minimal Viable Product (MVP) which should draw some more attention to this project.
I'm going to mention the people that have commented on the last blog, so they can stay updated on the progress of this project.
Please let me know if you want to be removed from this list.
@borislavzlatanov @ladyaryastark @detlev @shanibeer @tydynrain @melinda010100 @harvestmoon299 @ph1101 @deeanndmathews @minismallholding @edb @meno @deepresearch @por500bolos @quark.top @steevc
Yeah bro, don't worry. The code is still available, and I have both the GitHub link to download it from, as well as a copy of it stored on my hard drive. I'm just waiting for @ecoinstant to return from Mexico so he can sit down calmly in front of his computer to have a private conversation about the project.
👍
Sent you a small tip!
With many people contributing something, the 100$ should be easily reached!
Thanks mate! I think we will make it to the $100 soon too!
Nice to see this follow-up post, @friendlymoose, and this modification:
I am biased, as I suppose we all are, in one way or another, but I like the change you have made. For those newly arriving and choosing to actively participate on this blockchain, I do not know what consensus might be reached on whether there is a greater barrier to overcome than this one.
It is perfectly understandable that not everyone is going to be all that excited about everything any of us write. It is quite a different matter to even have the opportunity to make that determination, if there is no awareness that content exists.
Since your last post, with the little bit of time I could devote to it, I took a look at what my favorite UI, PeakD, could do right now. This is what I found:
Source: Sorting option on PeakD's UI
Others likely already know about this, perhaps, but it was new to me. Although currently grayed out, it appears to at least be something that dev team is working on, for a future release?
As a synergy building project, maybe @ecoinstant and his dev team can work together, with the PeakD dev team? I say that, not having any idea what the competition is between different dev teams behind the various UI options a Hivian has from which to choose. 🤷♂️
Thank you for this update on your great initiative! 🤝
it is the first time I see this, but I don't know if it already existed.
I hardly check those feeds. Because it is greyed out it does look like a header for the linkd underneath it.
Okay. Good point on "Others" being grayed out as well. I guess we'll see what sort of synergy can be created between different dev teams. Whether they have incentives or disincentives to collaborate, I do not know.
I just added my small donation.
Thanks mate! Appreciate that!
I think this is very interesting. I can't donate right now, but I'm gonna reblog this and the first blog so my followers (although aren't many) can also read about this project.
Cool! Thanks for reblogging!
Thanks for the update. Looking forward to hearing Eco's responses when he returns.
I'm glad to see this picking up some steam. Thanks a lot for the update, @friendlymoose! I don't have much to donate at the moment, but I did at least reblog this post. Overwhelming success to you, my friend! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
Thanks!
You're very welcome my friend! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Good idea!
Wow!!! I'll be home soon! Your work is appreciated!!
Have fun there!
Well mate, then let me know when you're back home safe, sound, rested and calm. And when you are able to sit calmly in front of your PC to have that pending conversation with me.

It would be fundamentally beneficial to start with simply fixing search. Fixing search, which is utterly abysmal on Hive today, would go a long way towards improving feeds. I reckon it would solve most of the problem.
Thanks!
I agree that the search is terrible at the moment. I hardly use it too. But I also think that a search has a different function than the content tool we have in mind.
I use the search mainly to find specific blogs or older blogs about a specific subject.
With the content discovery tool I want to discover new content to curate.
Seems to me simply to be search with specific parameters, such as topics you wish to find content about to curate, or authors that meet certain metrics.
Thank you for the update!
Hi friend, my contribution was in Tip with HIVE. Please do me a favor and convert it to HBD.

HIVE has a great deal of evergreen content. The problem is that unlike platforms like Medium, we do not have a good enough system of recommending content to visitors. @ecency and @peakd recommend few articles, but they rarely makes me want to click on them. If HIVE could keep its readers around, we could bring a lot of revenue through ads alone.
