Community outreach throwback month of August

Hello 👋my throwback family good to be back here today and am here to share a bit of what I do to give back to my community together with my team. So I'm a president of a sickle cell foundation. It's not been easy running the foundation with little or nothing as we have to look for donations from within friends and family to keep the foundation doing what it has set out to do as we try our best in educating students and individuals about sickle cell traits and how it can be avoided.On this year's World sickle cell day June 19, we saw that Nigeria was number 1 on the list and that saddened me because that number had changed but for it to show number 1. We had to buckle up more
My team and I decided to reach out to 2 communities in the month of August rather than just one.
Our mission was to run free health care check for the elderly and free genotype and blood group test to the teens while we educated them on the traits and what they need to know and of course how to marry right. Because in the end every life matters
The first our reach was held on August 1st and the turn out was very impressive the location had already be sensitized about the event so it was very easy for my team and I to get there and start work.
The health talk was packed with good and great questions and we had elders that wanted to know what their glucose sugar levels were.
As always we were thankful to have been given the opportunity to reach out to them and spreading the word that Nigeria can be sickle free. If we all do our part.
The next out reach took place on August 22nd and again prior to our getting there we saw that the venue was filled with already printed out information about what we were going to do there.
Our host really made sure that the people in the community had no excuse that they didn't know we were coming and it was a good feeling. Because before now, my team and I would have picked a day to go and sensitized the community that we would be going to before the exact date for the out reach, so both locations we picked did us a huge favour and work which they didn't know 😛😝😜.
There was something different about the second community that swept us all away and that was the composure of the children unlike the first community which we had plenty of drama because of needles, we know many people get scared merely looking at it😝. At the second location honestly the children were just too bold and one in particular was just looking at the doctor take his samples with out shaking, we were amazed and we said a prayer, may other communities we will be visiting going forward be like this last one because in December we move again touching lives in our own way.
