Gnostic Studies: Questioning Inherited Beliefs | The Secret Book of John — Part 1

I found "The Gnostic Bible" on my old computer and decided to start recording a study series starting with The Secret Book of John. I read through the opening, wrote down my thoughts, and recorded the commentary.

Listen To It Here

I'm approaching this as an esoteric text. I'll explore possible meanings as we go, question them, and leave room to reconsider alternative meanings and interpretations

What makes an inherited belief true?

I explore the connection between Arimanios and Ahriman, the destructive spirit in Zoroastrian tradition, and what that association might suggest about the character. Where could this encounter describe John's struggle with his own doubts and conditioning? Could the deceiver be the ego defending familiar beliefs?

John withdraws into solitude, distressed and full of questions. He has followed his teacher, yet still doesn't understand everything he was taught. It shows that even the best among us can repeat an idea for years without ever stopping to explain what we mean by it.
