I have made a couple of posts about the Hive blockchain game dCity in the past but with those, I have been only concentrating on my holdings of the SIM token.
It was just yesterday when I actually really started to play the game after reading this very good beginner guide post. I highly recommend that you do the same if you become interested in the game after reading this.
It was quite a while ago when I first build my city by buying cards from the market. After some period of time, my initial excitement started to fade away because I felt I couldn't advance in the game fast enough and to be honest, I didn't have a clue what I was doing. So I gave up and became just a holder of SIM tokens which give daily drips of HIVE if hold at least 8,000 of them.
At the same time while reading that great guide linked above I started to build on the ruins of my dCity.
The first thing I noticed was I had been airdropped a priest card because I had a church in my city.
Very cool. But the thing that bothered me was the negative impact the priest had on my income so I thought it would be time to do some reorganizations in my church...
To think of it, perhaps the one thing that drove me away from the game was the text-based user interface. For someone like me who's used to more graphic ones, it felt kinda intimidating. But even after playing just for a day I find myself quite liking it now and have found some pretty great features in it.
One of those is the simulation tool. With it, I can check what kind of impact would a card I'm buying have on income, popularity, and so on. The cool thing is I can add multiple cards in the simulation just by searching for the ones I want while leaving the desired amount in the box. This way I'll be kind of creating a "shopping list" for a perfectly balanced city.
Ok, so the first thing I did was to sell the priest and set the price to meet the highest bid. After that, I bought basic homes for my workers, parks, and a law firm to further boost the economy. Art Gallery. Yes, I got a little carried away but it didn't cost me that much and the results were pretty good.
My focus in the future will be on citizen mining which means I'll be selling the new citizens on the market and using that SIM to grow my city and the chance to get new citizens. This will, of course, screw up my plans to grow my SIM stack and get more HIVE drips but that time will come too, and hopefully, my city will be prosperous enough to bring in more and more SIM and that way eventually HIVE too.
Remember those Civilization PC-games? I've been a big fan of those for many years there seems to be that feel to dCity too with the balancing of the economy. I have a feeling I've just scratched the surface of dCity and it seems there is a lot bubbling under. In my future posts, I'll be digging deeper into other features and strategies once I fully understand them.
As for now, things in my city are in a good shape, with no unemployment or other unpleasant things. Perfectly balanced.
Thank you for reading!

Great work on developing your city.
Thanks! Just learning the ropes. You have been playing longer than me, any tips or things I should avoid doing? 😅
I think you are on the right track. Checking a new thing on the city every couple of weeks is the best strategy and focusing on minting new nfts.

Thanks for the report and the link to the good beginner's guide! I have gotten going on a couple of new games, MuTerra and Acryptia, so I think I will wait a bit to start mining citizens (sounds like a scary sci fi movie haha), but now I know how I can get started!

Great to hear you found this helpful! Yeah, I got that same futuristic vibe from the 'mining citizens' term as well! 😅
Muterra I've been following for a while but never heard of Acryptia? Have to check that out, cos I'm a sucker for these games! 😃 So thanks for mentioning that!

Acryptia is from Taco - not sure if there is a referral link lol
Taco has been my most steady performer on Wax, and I have high hopes for what is their first game. But be forewarned, stuff on Taco id expensive imo
Acryptia is like a new take on card battle games, at least for me. Not sure what the rewards will be like but the pack sale went well and this is the first open season to play (not just founder tokens or whatever), so it is early days with a crew that has a good track record of steady returns on most of their schemes.

I do remember the Civilisation games. :)
I actually started writing one long long ago but after a while I noticed that the FreeCiv folks were also doing so and I liked what they were doing better than my own attempt so I have been using FreeCiv ever since.
The thing is, in their community what passes for "long turns" is games in which one day is allowed per turn. So my deployments using a full real month per turn kind of boggle them; possibly because they are focussing only on the one game rather than the possibilities that open up when your FreeCiv planet is "just" providing the large scale "backdrop" to other games that are played at smaller scales.
FreeCiv does not (yet!) have the ability to "delegate" control of individual cities within a Civilisation to different players, but presumably a nation wishing to do that could put itself together by means of alliances among civilisations that each only have a single city, or something like that.
I need the game-turns at that scale to allow a full real-life month per turn because for most of the smaller-scale games involved a whole year of game-time takes that long to play out. (We have CoffeeMud and Crossfire-RPG running at about 5 minutes real time to one hour of in-game time for example.)
I hope if you are still interested in Civilisation type games you will take a look at the Galactic Milieu :)

Thanks for the comment! I do still love Civ games and FreeCiv sounds really interesting. Took a quick look at Galactic Milieu but have to take my time and dig deeper with some time. Thanks for sharing that!
