Hola querido hiver.

En la comunidad Hive Collectors nos proponen en este mes mostrar recuerdos de viajes que hayamos hecho. En este aspecto he pasado por etapas tan diversas como recoger las servilletas o los posavasos de los hoteles y restaurantes que visitaba hasta pasar por mis lugares de vacaciones sin hacer ni una mísera fotografía que inmortalizase el momento. Incluso la memoria, y con ella me refiero a la que se aloja en nuestro cerebro, la propia, termina haciendo limpieza de vez en cuando para hacer sitio a las nuevas experiencias.

Pero hay unos objetos que para mí son sagrados: los libros. Me cuesta la vida desprenderme de esas fuentes de conocimiento y llaves a mundos imaginarios o reales. Durante una época me dio por adquirir un libro de cada sitio al que viajaba, de ese modo me podía concentrar en disfrutarlos con plenitud y despreocuparme de tomar fotografías. Con la ventaja añadida de encontrar en ellos la información acerca de la historia de lugar y otros datos de interés. Ellos son los protagonistas de este post.

Comienzo por el primero que adquirí, Granada y la Alhambra. Es uno de los que más cariño tengo porque llevaba toda la vida soñando con visitar la Alhambra. Mis padres hicieron una ruta por Andalucía en su viaje de novios y conservan como recuerdo unos libros similares a los míos. ¡La de horas que pasé admirando las fotografías y leyendo lo que explicaban! No fue hasta mi propio viaje de recién casada que tuve la oportunidad de hacer un remake de aquel viaje de mis progenitores. Mientras la mayoría de parejas de mi generación se iban a disfrutar de las playas de la República Dominicana, que era la moda por entonces, yo me quedé en mi país y me di una buena paliza de cultura, historia y paisajes.

Este libro en concreto es una joya, pues además de la información que te da cualquier guía también contiene pequeños monográficos sobre determinados aspectos que te sirven para profundizar y ampliar las visitas a los monumentos y lugares de interés. La única pega es que es voluminoso y pesado para llevarlo encima. Acabé con los hombros doloridos, aunque feliz.

La siguiente parada de ese viaje fue Sevilla, la capital de Andalucía. En esa época (finales del año 2005) el turismo todavía no estaba tan masificado como ahora y se podía ver todo con tranquilidad. Lo que más me gustó fue que el hotel no estaba en el mismo centro, eso nos permitió mezclarnos con el ambiente del barrio y conocer de verdad la vida de sus habitantes.

Uno de los días de ese mismo viaje nos desplazamos hasta Córdoba. Lo que más recuerdo es el calor que pasamos y era principios del mes de noviembre, ya en invierno...

Un par de años después pasamos las vacaciones de verano en la ciudad de Valencia. He regresado allí varias veces más por motivos laborales pero no he podido hacer más turismo hasta el momento. Por encima de todos los monumentos y edificios interesantes que tiene la ciudad, dos fueron las experiencias que más me gustaron: una, recorrer la Albufera al atardecer montada en una barca. La segunda, asistir como público al Tribunal de las Aguas, que es ese círculo de personas que aparece en la foto de abajo. Es una tradición que se mantiene desde hace siglos en la que representantes de cada zona de la región deciden asuntos de turnos de regadíos y reparto de caudales de acequias.

Nos movemos ahora desde las orillas del Mar Mediterráneo hasta el Cantábrico. He visitado la comunidad de Cantabria varios veranos en busca de frescor y en cada ocasión he recorrido distintos lugares desde uno como base. Es difícil destacar solamente un sitio, pero si tuviera que escoger me quedaría con Comillas. Hasta su cementerio es bonito y tiene unas vistas a la costa magníficas. Un lugar privilegiado para pasar la eternidad.

Y termino con el más cercano, dedicado a los valles orientales del Pirineo de Aragón. Si me sigues ya conoces mi amor por las montañas. Me hice con este ejemplar en el que aparecen numerosas excursiones y rutas de senderismo de distintas dificultades, bien detalladas y acompañadas de orientación e información. No he hecho podido hacer todavía todas las que tengo marcadas, así que sigo teniendo tarea pendiente.

Gracias a esta iniciativa he rememorado momentos, he encontrado folletos y mapas que no recordaba que tenía. Ahora contamos con la comodidad de tener todos los datos que necesitamos a un click de distancia, nuestros móviles nos orientan sin necesidad de cargar con mapas o guías. Pero las sensaciones que he tenido mientras hojeaba de nuevo mi pequeña colección de libros de viajes no la da ningún aparato por moderno que sea.

Hi, dear hiver.

This month, the Hive Collectors community has asked us to share memories of trips we have taken. In this regard, I have gone through stages as diverse as collecting napkins and coasters from the hotels and restaurants I visited to going on holiday without taking a single photograph to immortalise the moment. Even our memory, and by that I mean the one stored in our brains, ends up clearing itself out from time to time to make room for new experiences.

But there are some objects that are sacred to me: books. I find it very difficult to part with these sources of knowledge and keys to imaginary or real worlds. For a while, I took to buying a book from every place I travelled to, so that I could concentrate on enjoying them fully and not worry about taking photographs. This had the added advantage of finding information about the history of the place and other interesting facts in them. They are the protagonists of this post.

I'll start with the first one I bought, Granada and the Alhambra. It's one of my favourites because I had always dreamed of visiting the Alhambra. My parents took a trip around Andalusia on their honeymoon and kept some books similar to mine as souvenirs. I spent hours admiring the photographs and reading the explanations! It wasn't until my own honeymoon that I had the opportunity to recreate my parents' trip. While most couples of my generation went to enjoy the beaches of the Dominican Republic, which was the fashion at the time, I stayed in my country and immersed myself in culture, history and landscapes.

This book in particular is a gem, because in addition to the information you would find in any guidebook, it also contains short monographs on specific aspects that help you to deepen and broaden your visits to monuments and places of interest. The only downside is that it is bulky and heavy to carry around. I ended up with sore shoulders, but I was happy.

The next stop on that trip was Seville, the capital of Andalusia. At that time (late 2005), tourism was not yet as crowded as it is now, and you could see everything at your leisure. What I liked most was that the hotel was not in the centre, which allowed us to blend in with the neighbourhood and really get to know the life of its inhabitants.

One day during that same trip, we travelled to Córdoba. What I remember most is how hot it was, even though it was early November, already winter...

A couple of years later, we spent our summer holidays in the city of Valencia. I have returned there several times for work, but I haven't been able to do any more sightseeing so far. Above all the monuments and interesting buildings in the city, there were two experiences that I liked the most: one was touring the Albufera at sunset on a boat. The second was attending the Tribunal de las Aguas (Water Tribunal) as a member of the public, which is the circle of people shown in the photo below. It is a centuries-old tradition in which representatives from each area of the region decide on matters of irrigation shifts and the distribution of water from irrigation channels.

We now move from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea to the Cantabrian Sea. I have visited the region of Cantabria several summers in search of coolness, and each time I have explored different places from one location as my base. It is difficult to single out just one place, but if I had to choose, I would go for Comillas. Even its cemetery is beautiful and has magnificent views of the coast. A privileged place to spend eternity.

And I'll finish with the closest one, dedicated to the eastern valleys of the Aragonese Pyrenees. If you follow me, you already know my love for the mountains. I got hold of this copy, which features numerous excursions and hiking trails of varying difficulty, well detailed and accompanied by guidance and information. I haven't been able to do all the ones I've marked yet, so I still have some work to do.

Thanks to this initiative, I have reminisced about moments and found brochures and maps that I didn't remember I had. Now we have the convenience of having all the information we need just a click away, and our mobile phones guide us without the need to carry maps or guides. But the feelings I had while leafing through my small collection of travel books again cannot be replaced by any device, no matter how modern it may be.
