More Than Loving Books

I appreciate the idea of investing in the things you love. I remember saying in the last post I wrote in this community that I was going to be attending a book and arts festival. Maybe I missed talking about the arts part, but yeah, I attended the Boldoz Books and Art Festival, and while I can’t narrate to you everything that happened, I think I’ll be categorically talking about all I experienced.

First off, when it comes to books, I am a splurger, for lack of a better term. Or maybe I could call myself a spendthrift but of the book kind. I remember vividly my days in secondary school. I remember particularly how my parents had given me about four thousand naira that week, and I had saved about five thousand naira, making nine thousand in total. You may not believe it, but I marched to the lady who specialized in fiction and spent the entire nine thousand naira on books.

It may not seem like a lot, but for a secondary school student in a somewhat modest economy, at least back then, that could have comfortably fed you for nearly a month or thereabout. I was ecstatic after buying the books and my friend playfully glared at me and said that she hoped that when I got super hungry, I wouldn’t hesitate to eat my books since I was acting like I was the only one who loved books.

I guess what I’m trying to say is how much I would go and how deeply I would invest for something I love which is books. And to be honest, I would do and overdo. When I heard about the book festival, before even finding out how much it cost, I’d already declared that I would be attending. So, the regular tickets were there and then there were the VIP tickets which was five times the price of a regular tickets.

I could have easily opted for the regular tickets, but then I saw that the perk of having a VIP ticket which included having a buffet dinner with the authors and I was like, "wild horses aren’t keeping me away from this one.* I remember wondering how I was going to get the money but all that was the forefront of my mind was books, food, authors. Nothing more mattered to me and so I managed to gather the money and paid for the ticket.

Like I said in the beginning, I believe in investing in the things you love. Even with the regular ticket, pulling out money because you love books so much, takes your reading and even writing experience to the next level, and dare I add showcases just how much you value it. I would love to talk more about this but I really want to divide my experience into segments. Talking about the different things I got from being there. But anyway, I think I’ll just end here.

I ended up with two new books that I’m absolutely psyched about, but I’ll share it with you in the next segment of my trip to the Boldoz Books and Art Festival. Have a lovely time everyone. Let’s keep BOOKing.

A fantastic experience, no doubt, I have also spent money on books and it is a wonderful investment. Have also joked with me "When you are hungry eat books" 😂, it's funny but the truth does feed the spirit.

You got a signed copy from Rosemary Okafor? Girll, you won!🥺 If only these bookish events would fit into any of my locations everytime, I know how pleased I'll be.
From your post, I could detect that the VIP ticket was absolutely worth it. I'm so happy for you dear🥺💕. Looking forward to your writing about the next segment of this trip.
