Exciting title! Unmissable news! OMG no way!

Said who?

image.png

Ok, so, yeah, no idea where to even begin.

I mean, I was thinking about it, and the ideas just kept coming.

But where to start? What’s even the point?

Well, let me begin…

This is my second post of the day…

Big woop, right?

image.png

But it got me to thinking. Why do I have ‘you can only post once a day on Hive’ engrained in my brain? Why did I put so much pressure on myself to ‘post one post to Hive every day’. It actually used to stress me out so much I ended up just not creating content at all! Go figure!

Is it something I’ve learnt, something I’ve decided myself, or something that’s shaped by others on Hive?

This got me to thinking more in general, about my personal content creation choices, and about the further ramifications here on Hive.

Is having more than one post a day ‘spammy’? Is it ‘reward farming’? Is it allowed, frowned upon or banned?

I mean, I could understand if people are posting several posts a day with little content, maybe just a random image or meme and ‘farming’ rewards. Or if people are using AI to throw out hundreds of blog posts a day. Heck, maybe even waffling random ‘ipsum epsom Ai talksum’

Is this post just waffle? How does one even reply to a ‘blog’ post? I mean, if I craft ‘top quality’ content, the type we see in newspapers? (Are they still a thing?). Or ‘mainstream’ blogs. Do people even read those, or is it simply a headline that people look for? Would my time be better spent simply creating a decent title for a post and stating a few words to emphasise it?

Or should I spend more time crafting higher quality long-form content? Would more people read it? Would people be more interested in commenting?

Or should I simply ‘whale’ up and force my position on chain?

image.png

My writing style is…different, to say the least. I don’t tend to follow the ‘norms’ when it comes to writing. Most of my thoughts are simply that, random thoughts, that spill out in whichever order they appear. Using Grammarly, I’m sometimes able to at least make them coherent, but overall, they’re still my random thoughts coming together to make a ‘blog’.

Heck, I often make drafts then never look at them again, such is my brain! Sometimes the ideas come pouring out and I’ve nowhere to put them. I make notes on the computer, or my phone, or my many notebooks and sticky notes! I love a sticky note! 99% of them are binned after a couple of days as I never look at them again.

Should I simply ‘just do it’ and make content as and when I have an idea? Should I ‘spam’ Hive with multiple posts a day and let the Hivians decide if they’re worthy of a vote? Let’s be honest, the majority of people won’t read the majority of content on Hive. It’s impossible. How can one person read hundreds if not thousands of posts a day and engage with users whilst trying to craft their own way in this Hive multiverse?

image.png

Why should people read posts? Are posts adding value to Hive? What is the ‘real’ value of Hive? Having a ‘decentralised’ place where you can voice opinions without fear of ‘demonetisation or silencing’. I mean, Hive within reason has those problems too. People are ‘downvoted’ until they quit. They lose all earnings and deem their time here to be worthless. Is that a net positivity for Hive or bringing us all down?

I noticed acidyo (tag removed. two reasons, not to 'poke the whale' and not to chase clout/try to get his attention, it's not how i roll on hive) made a post today, only a few words. ‘Tell me something you like and dislike about hive’. Is the title. Here's the post. I mean, it seems to be one of those types of posts that do well regardless. People seem to vote and engage with posts about Hive on Hive. Odd or not?

Now, this isn’t a dig at Acidyo, but look at the replies/engagement and vote value. Is that post ‘better’ than the majority of other content on hive today? Or is he a whale and therefore he’s earned more engagement? Or are people simply ‘clout chasing’, trying to get a bumper upvote for themselves?

I mean, it's possible that Acidyo is actually a genuinely awesome dude, who I should spend more time researching and supporting. It's all perspective isn't it? I don't know much about Acidyo; however, I do know he builds on and uses Hive probably better than the majority. So again, not a dig, simply using him as an example as it was one of the posts at the top of my feed today.

I try to avoid Hive politics. I don’t like the ‘tribalism’ on Hive. Or the ‘control’ some users either think they have or try to enforce. Each with their own set of rules and guidelines, many unwritten and enforced differently depending on the perpetrator of the breaches.

image.png

When I started my Hive journey, I jumped in head first, creating a community and token. Expecting to stroll in, support others and build a great community of like minded people. However I found most people were already ‘stuck’ in their community. Other community leaders expected support but didn’t support others. Everyone had their opinions on what others were doing, and weren’t open to changing their views.

I mean, such is life, I guess. Everyone is out for their own gain, even if at the expense of others. There’s very little support for the little guy in 'real terms'. Every tribe or community have ways they say they’ll support them, but, in the end, most people are only doing it if it gives them a net positive return. It’s not charity, it’s simply a scratch my back and I’ll give you a little tickle once in a while to make you feel important.

What’s the point of this post? Honestly, there isn’t one. There’s too much content, too much spiel, too many questions.

Will anyone even read this? Maybe Acid will, at least the part where he’s tagged (Tag removed during editing before posting. I'm not looking to poke the bear negatively, nor 'farm' a free upvote from a whale). And he may take offence, or he may agree. (Trust me, I’m still considering not tagging him. I don’t want to poke any bears, or whales!) But at the end of the day, why shouldn’t we poke the bears? Why should we worry about being downvoted, losing our rep and all rewards on the platform?

Notice how I put rep first; that’s more important to me than the rewards I receive. Heck, I’d much rather have engagement than votes; most of them are ‘bot’ votes anyway. Everyone uses automation to some extent. Even if you’re following a ‘manual’ curator, you’re still relying and feeding into the bot system.

Should that be scrapped altogether? If people aren’t active and curating content themselves, should they have a ‘stake’ in curating the content we see?

image.png

Do votes for curations even matter? Are people open to discovering ‘new’ things, or simply trudging through hive in their own little bubbles without paying much thought to the wider Hivesphere? Earning 'their' rewards and forgetting everyone else?

Meh, random post, but that’s that! Second one today! Good thing? Bad thing? Or irrelevant as you’re not even here reading the post? You decide!

Until next time,
Sloth out!

I think the "don't" post more than once a day, is from people who rely only on autovotes (which are typically configured to vote once per user per 24 hour period) to get rewards on their content. If you have a lot of genuine things to say - and you can have faith your quality is high, post as much as you want.

That's what your resource credits let you do. If that's a problem, then posts should cost more resource credits.

I found your post by trawling through new. I do that for most of my discovery / interaction on HIVE, after I search my feed for any new content.

But I do engage with HIVE multiple times per day.

Thanks for stopping by, I'm glad youre a 'new content' trawler. I sometimes find myself doing the same, normally at the expense of my regular followers. Too many posts, not enough hours in the day for a sloth!

I think youre right about the one post a day thing. Those auto votes make a difference, especially to smaller users. At the same time they can be seen as 'buying' votes.

But then, how are small users expected to grow otherwise. How many people are trawling through new content looking for undiscovered gems. I guess thats one of the many issues with Hive. That's not to say there's not many awesome things on Hive too! I guess I'm just being a moany sloth today!

Happy Hiving!

People complain about not having time to do things, then don't make time away from other things to do the things they complained about.

If they didn't complain, which takes up many time, they'd have more time!
