Not Happening Bro

image.png

One of the things I love about The Pub community over on Discord is that we have a variety of people from a lot of different backgrounds gathering there. It's not always super lively, and if I were a better community leader, I would probably do something to fix that, but we still have some good conversations every now and then.

Usually the way it works, is Marky will throw some funny or mild offensive video or meme into the chat, and that will get people talking about one topic or another. Like the Bro community before it and countless pubs across the world, The Pub is a place where people are free to share their opinions, but they are also subject to the debate, ridicule, or support that comes along with their stated opinion.

Over the years, there is one opinion I have seen several times that I can't help but speak out about. As someone who works in public education, this opinion hits very close to home and I want to sent the record straight about it for everyone to see.

The idea that public schools, and more specifically teachers are teaching kids to be transgender via some kind of woke leftist agenda is absolutely false.

Now, before you start typing up that comment about your brothers cousins golf partner who has a kid at some school who says this happened to them... I'm not saying it doesn't happen in isolated incidents, but just like an isolated incident of aggression between two kids is not bullying, these isolated incidents are not indicative of the system as a whole.

image.png

Like I said, I work with these people every single day, they honestly don't have the time to be worrying about pushing some kind of agenda (right or left) on your students. They are just trying to do the best job they can to stay alive (which is sad we have come to this), and make your kid as ready as possible to tackle the real world despite parents desire to be their kids friend and set zero boundaries for them.

Between ridiculous and ever changing expectations from the government which directly impacts their performance reviews and thus their livelihood, and those folks who think it's the teachers job to raise their kid not theirs, we are just doing everything we can to survive here.

Then, imagine being halfway through the school year and the state decides you need to teach math a different way because the old way didn't really work for decades and decades. Or, the government has to balance their budget, so they take the money from the school aid fund that was earmarked for public education and they give 40% of it to colleges and universities (who already charge tuition) and let you know that your state budget allocation is going to drop a bit for the second half of the school year.

To top it off, as I mentioned before, you have to worry about some student, parent, random stranger off the street coming into your building with a gun, knife, or some other weapon and causing a mass casualty event.

image.png

That's absolute sarcasm of course, but I understand there might be some isolated incidents here and there. Maybe more in California?, but at least in the state where I work, this stuff that people think is happening just isn't happening. Perhaps it is different in other parts of the world. I've heard people with specific stories that have enough detail I wouldn't dare to tell them they are lying, but as I said, in a broad spectrum sense, it's just not happening bro.

I'm in touch with education professionals from across the state of Michigan and I haven't once heard a sliver of corroboration to those rumors or beliefs.

The cool thing is, after explaining these things in the pub chat, it seemed to open a few eyes about the reality out there, which is why I also wanted to share it with you here as a post.

It is easy to point fingers at teachers or follow other traditional stereotypes about government institutions in general, but the reality often doesn't match those narratives.

There is also a stereotype that government is always inefficient and technologically backwards. And while that is sometimes true due to the budgeting factors that you have mentioned and wages that are a fraction of those in the private sector, there are public sector organizations that are ways ahead of the private sector technology wise. But people are going to believe what they want to believe...

I like to remind people of the saying, "The exception proves the rule."

If we're hearing about fringe cases of this happening, logic would tell us that's in the minority. Not to say we shouldn't do our own due diligence as parents, but assuming the worst first from those we're entrusting to teach our kids is starting off badly.

Unfortunately, there are certain factions that don't make it easier to do all of that.

0E-8 BEE

Yeah, it's sad when people automatically assume the worst and act on impulse rather than taking a step back to think things through before speaking or acting. 🙁

It's so obviously silly noise, I am surprised anyone really believes it.

Gotta be parroting views projected to either signal alignment with one political faction, or some vested interest or another is promoting polarising ideas to keep everyone at each others throats.

Do people really, honestly believe schools are trying to gender modify children. What do they think is the end game here ?

Yeah, I think your second point is spot on. It's all about creating division, and people are eating it up like crazy!

You have truly highlighted a real truth about public schools, brother! Thank you sincerely for sharing these important matters with us

My pleasure!

It's really good to know that you're pleased, brother! I hope you will continue to share such posts with us in the future. Stay well, and I hope you and your family have a wonderful time!

It's so difficult these days with people getting sucked into false narratives. There are so many political agendas when it comes to media coverage it's challenging to really know what's going on unless you have direct experience—like you and your wife do with the school system.

Our public school system in St. Paul is in serious trouble. According to a recent study only about 35% of St. Paul public school students in general are proficient in reading (41% of high school students). That's well below state and national averages. It's sad and frightening that we're graduating kids who can't read or don't comprehend what they've read. I can't imagine navigating life as an illiterate person.

The sad thing is, that is probably never going to change unless things change in the homes. They get sent to us expecting to fix what they broke in the first place. It's wholly unrealistic.

I totally agree, Jay. My wife worked for the school system for about a year and some of the stories broke your heart. The teachers are really trying, sometimes spending their own money to buy school supplies for the classes. A large number of parents pass off their kids to the schools to raise them but the second it's time to discipline the children in any way or just tell them no the parents come in ready to fight and argue with the school staff. I don't envy teachers but highly respect anyone willing to devote their life to it.

Education varies by state pretty significantly. I think these instances are a little less isolated in some places than in others.

I think it's cherry picking and then exploiting isolated incidents.

Nowadays, it is very difficult to distinguish between true and false narratives. I also feel that most people are reluctant to verify information with reliable sources. That is why so many people easily fall for fake news and hoaxes.

0.00367137 BEE

I think it's hard to even find reliable sources, so I can't say I blame people on some level!

0E-8 BEE

Yes, I completely agree with you. The difficulty of finding reliable sources is also one of the downsides of the current era of information overload.

This is nothing but the real hidden truth!

It is also the duty of parents to train their children. So, they're not suppose to channel all the teachings and trainings to the teachers. Because, they're just helpers.

In my day I had more issues with teachers who were bullies, but most were dedicated people. Maybe a lot of them are more 'liberal' (or woke or whatever) than average, but it's not an easy job and we need to encourage kids to be good to others. Kids can be really nasty to anyone who is 'different' so we need more tolerance. If that's woke then I'm all for it.

Teachers do typically lean towards the left because they are usually in a union and those two typically go hand in hand. In addition to that, the right usually tends to want to defund the public school system in favor of a voucher system, which would lead to class and other forms of segregation, so in light of losing their livelihood they also tend to lead left. I know a lot of conservative teachers too though.

0.00007755 BEE

Even one instance of it is too many for me.

0.00361960 BEE

I'm just not seeing it.

0E-8 BEE

I hope you aren't.

0E-8 BEE

There is always someone who, just to be annoying, says ridiculous and baseless things. Fortunately, reality and reason prevail in most cases, sooner or later. Hugs!
