Just another slow Sunday and dealing with car troubles

Is is Sunday and for me that's just a slow and lazy day. It was a storm last evening at my seaside flat, the sea was furious, but today it calmed down out of the blue. While that is great the only negative about it is that it left at the shore a lot of algae and going for a swim is not appealing as other times. I woke up quite early around 6:40 AM and watch the sunrise from my bad. My thoughts were to go to the beach early but as I got asleep around 1:00 AM on Saturday that made it a mission impossible. So I took another nap and ended waking up at around 9:30 AM when the sun was already hot. Even so I wanted to go for a swim, but than I saw at the shores kind of black water and I knew the algae sailed on them. Thus I decided to skip going in the morning and delay that for the afternoon.

My laziness kicked in and after a short late breakfast I watched one episode from the new season of "Reacher", season 4. I finished it and got captured by the new narrative and probably could have continue for few more episodes. But I decided to go out and do some overdue shopping, so I took a quick shower and out of the door I was. Went to my car (BMW X6, 2008), started it and got rolling. But after about 1 Km a sensor wake me up telling me that I was low on antifreeze. Not good news as I had problems like that in the past and ended up replacing the radiator and many pipes. That was about two years ago and until now didn't have any problems with it. While I usually panic in such situations and being so far away from my house (450 km) even if I am staying at my seaside flat, this time I decided to take things easy and slow as the Sunday day that we are into.

I drove about 500 meters until a gas station and parked nearby. Went inside and found few antifreeze options, but didn't know which to pick up for my car. Did some asking on ChatGPT and got the response that I need to put G11 antifreeze and I ended up buying about 3 liters out of it. The BMW eats about 10 liters of antifreeze, so I wondered if that would be enough or if there is a big problem with it. Went back to the car and poured the first liter which vanished away. I started the second bottle and a good thing was that it only needed about 500 ml to get back to the max level. That was the good news as that means that not all the antifreeze drained up, but in the same time adding 1.5 Liter still signals a real issue and some serious loss of it.

Now I got to a mall where I will be doing some shopping and decided before that to stop at a Starbucks, get myself an icy Americano and tell you my story. Probably after I finish the shopping and go back to my car, I will do an inspection to see if any antifreeze drained on the road. If that's clear will start the car and wait for about 5 minutes with it like that to see if any sensor will detect a malfunction. If all is good probably will go back to the flat which is about 2 kilometers from the mall. Not a long distance thus I should make it regardless. But than probably I shouldn't leave it like that until the trip back home as driving about 450 km with such an issue I don't think that's possible and during driving it might consume or leak more antifreeze.

Usually when I have a problem it demoralize me, but lately I've tried to take that pressure out of me and take things slower. In the same time my car is quite old, but I still like it a lot and it flies on the road, thus I continue on keeping it even it's overdue. But to have peace of mind probably I will need to change it sooner rather than later. Thing is that my next favorite car in line is the new BMW IX3 2026 electric car which is very expensive as new pushing the envelope even towards 100k Euro. I wanted it to roll out few years and maybe acquire one from BMW Premium Selection program - old cars, but still with warranty. My hope would be that the price for these would go as low as 50K with all the competition from the space. But I will see if I can afford to wait that much.

To conclude regardless the problems with the car, for me it is just another slow and lazy Sunday. My brain seems disconnected from everything and that's healthy as another work week follows. I hope this post finds you well and that you enjoy the remaining part of the weekend. Cheers!

PS: If you can 100% UPVOTE or TIP me some $$$ HIVE would be great to help with car maintenance which probably will rise to few hundred euros. Just kidding! 😁😆😁😆 Or not...

Yeah, it seems so. Probably next week I will take it for a diagnosis at a service. First to do a pressure test and an inspection of the hoses, that's were I assume the problem resides.

You said the last time the car issues happened, that it was two years ago, does that mean you've possibly owned the car for close to 3 or 4 years?

The car is from 2008 and I bought it once the previous owner finish its leasing (5 years), thus I bought it in 2013. That means I have it for almost 13 years and it was and still is such a joy to drive. But these problems really wake me up to the reality that I need a new/newer car (I will opt'in for EV). But not 100% decided and in a good financial spot, thus this is why I am still going with it. 😊

Old car requires more repair cost after a reasonable time its good to buy new one to avoid that hassle.

100% true but I was hoping to still use the current car, while the BMW IX3 price would went down to make sense for a buy. But I will see if that's feasible and realistic to still use it and patch it here or there, or if I need to push myself and make the move to a newer one.
