RE: Are My Seasons In Splinterlands Profitable?

These are interesting calculations and it was interesting to see our methodologies. I don't really rent cards at all except for a few GF for brawls occasionally.

I collect cards and I buy them to complete my decks. Whatever I earn in a season, I invest into the system by staking more SPS or selling into DEC so I can buy more cards! In my almost 2 years playing this game, I've never taken profits off of Hive.

In your case, a long-term strategy focusing on the growth of the collection with the aim of card appreciation comes into play.

Definitely a long term strategy! I've been playing Magic the Gathering for the better part of 30 years and it is amazing to see the rise in card prices over time.

Cards I got for $20-$40 back in 1993 are now worth in the hundreds and thousands of dollars due to their collectibility and scarcity. While I don't think Splinterlands will be able to recreate the huge price increases of MtG, I do think that over time we will see an emergence of people who are collectors in addition to players/earners.

I am very excited to see the effect land will have on the in-game economy, especially when it comes to the value of older, more rare cards!
