Very interesting. I'm going to have to go and look to see if there are any known areas in Michigan. I'd probably have better luck going out and searching for morrells though! :)
Location is everything when looking for gold. Check around, there may be some good areas. I know there are a lot of native copper deposits in Michigan, and they can valuable too! People will pay a lot for specimens like this one that came from there!
Yeah, most all of it is in the UP from the sounds of it. There was a gold mine operating up near Marquette up until about 1991 from what I read. There was a big volcanic area up there near Lake Superior that carried a lot of minerals up through the porous rocks via steam, then it settled and hardened in layers.
