You are absolutely right, every child AND adult should understand and apply this, but I'm afraid that is and will always be an illusion. We only have to listen to the news to know that it is not clear to many people. And even closer to home, the examples can probably not be counted on one hand. If everyone mastered these basic principles, the entire world would be a kinder, healthier, and safer place to be.
