I Will Be Fine

It was a Saturday and usually being a weekend means I will be doing some household items shopping, cleaning, cooking, resting, and sometimes having a mini party at home with some friends.

This Saturday evening I just bade a few of my friends goodbye who I had invited to have a barbeque mini party at my place. We had a lot of fun more than we could ever imagine, some of them we do this a lot but two of them we haven't seen in a while as they left for their master's degrees abroad about two years ago and we have just been opportune to meet again and hang out.

Simi who happens to be one of the abroad returnees joked about rumors she heard 'that the world will likely go into total darkness ' we all laughed at her and called her a conspiracy theorist, like how on earth can the whole world be plunged into total darkness without any form of electricity. She told us that was what she heard even though not sure how true it was. Temi said 'it better not be through 'because she can't even imagine what life will be like if that happens and I prayed so as well.

It is now half past Nine pm as I joined my hubby inside who left us a little bit earlier to listen to the Nine o'clock news. A few minutes later there was an electricity outage, we were both surprised as our light does not usually go off at this time of the night. NEPA will usually give us light till day brake, took it, and return it at ten the following morning.

I thought well maybe this NEPA has started doing their village thing just then I remembered what Simi joked about during the party. My second mind waved it out and hoping that the light will be restored just any moment.

Just then hubby called my attention to a trending article online about the whole world experiencing a lack of electricity.

I screamed no! no!! no!!! This can't be right, why and how can this even be possible.? A million questions ran through my mind and to think that I just stocked our freezer with food and different kind of soup to last us for a week, hmmm what will I do with all that.

For a start, I remembered the petrol we had stored in the garage should be able to last us for a week and then what next? If this news should be in any way true then we are screwed and only being creative will make us survive.

A day has passed by and the rumors are now as clear as daylight. The gas in my gas cylinder will soon finish and I heard there was no more gas at the gas stations. The thought of going back to using firewood for cooking gave me heartache.

We learned that for the earth to survive we have to go back to the pre-technology era and start doing things in the old ways, go back to the farm, the letter-writing era.

Because the petrol in the whole country can only last us for a week after that, we go back to the olden day era. This means we won't be able to use our cars, tv, phones, freezers, and any form of electronics. Even my hair dryer will become useless to me, what a nightmare!

I have spent the past few days planning my survival. Since my electronics will soon be useless, I spent close to two hours a day with my parents and siblings on phone. We have just a few days to lose internet access as well. We will talk a lot about how we are going to be able to survive in the coming days.

Firstly I will have to stop storing food in my freezer. This can be more stressful for me since I will have to cook every single meal when it's needed but will also mean I will be eating more healthy food since everything will be made fresh.

I have told hubby to write to his head department in other to be granted some of the vast lands just sitting at his working place. If granted we could grow almost all our food and even have a cattle and horses ranch. Since pretty soon we will have to go back to using horses as a means of transportation this can even become a kind of cool business for us as many people will have to patronize us for their transport needs. I won't be able to earn online again anyway, so it will be a very much-needed way to earn money.

Secondly, I'm working on launching a campaign to make our earth healthy, if everyone can join me and do their part in making mother earth healthy again who knows we might just be on our way to getting our electricity back. I have contacted the Government agency involved and was told that there is a possibility if every hand can be on deck and do what is necessary. The Earth may be well and strong again.

The time ahead is very uncertain and might be hard but I'm prepared to make the very best out of it. And my survival instinct tells me I will be fine but it might not be easy.
