Die Biden-Regierung hat noch kurz vor ihrem Abgang versucht, TikTok in den USA zu verbieten und die Situation is sogar soweit eskaliert, dass der chinesische Anbieter ByteDance einen Tag lang TikTok in den USA gesperrt hat.
Der Betrieb wurde aber wieder aufgenommen und Trump hat angekündigt TikTok nicht verbieten zu wollen.
TikTok ist eines der erfolgreichsten Social Media, hat alleine in den USA 170 Millionen MAU (monthly active users) und weltweit über 1 Milliarde.
Geopolitisch ist das den USA, die sonst bei Internet-Services die Hegemonie besitzen, ein Dorn im Auge. Der Regierung geht es gar nicht so sehr um ein Verbot, sondern sie wollen mit dem angedrohten Bann, ByteDance dazu zwingen, die App mit den amerikanischen Usern an eine US-Firma zu verkaufen. Auf X haben die User sogar gescherzt, dass Elon Musk TikTok kaufen könnte.
TikTok hat sich aber bis jetzt geweigert, die App zu verkaufen, aus nachvollziehbaren Gründen.
Auf der anderen Seite, werden amerikanische Social Media wie X und Facebook in China blockiert. Also ganz fair ist es geopolitisch tatsächlich nicht.
Was meint ihr? Soll Trump TikTok zum Verkauf zwingen/verbieten oder weiter gewähren lassen? Kann so ein Verbot überhaupt funktionieren? Am Tag, wo TikTok in den USA gesperrt war, sind die User angeblich zu einer anderen chinesischen App (Rednote) gewechselt. Das wäre auch nicht im Interesse der USA.

The Biden administration tried to ban TikTok in the USA shortly before it left office and the situation even escalated to such an extent that the Chinese provider ByteDance blocked TikTok in the US for a day.
However, operations have resumed and Trump has announced that he will not ban TikTok.
TikTok is one of the most successful social media, with 170 million MAU (monthly active users) in the US alone and over 1 billion worldwide.
Geopolitically, this is a thorn in the side of the US, which otherwise enjoys hegemony when it comes to internet services. The government is not so much interested in a ban, but rather in using the threat of a ban to force ByteDance to sell the app with the American users to a US company. On X, users even joked that Elon Musk could buy TikTok.
However, TikTok has so far refused to sell the app, for understandable reasons.
On the other hand, American social media such as X and Facebook are blocked in China. So it really isn't entirely fair from a geopolitical perspective.
What do you think? Should Trump force/ban TikTok to sell or let it continue to operate? Can such a ban even work? The day TikTok was banned in the US, users allegedly switched to another Chinese app (Rednote). That would not be in the interests of the US either.

Tiktok sollte überall gebannt werden, nicht aus (geo)politischen Gründen, sondern weil es massiv zur Verdummung der Massen beiträgt. Es ist wie eine Droge, die die Leute davon abhät, ihr Gehirn zu benutzen. Die Chinesen selbst sehen diesen Tiktok-Content gar nicht, der ist nur fürs Ausland bestimmt! Sagt doch alles, oder?
Only problem I have with tiktok is allowing very bad trends. But, in general I don't think anything should be banned, and it's only up to people how they use any type of tool they are given. The social media overall is having bad influence on children today, but I blame in on parent's for not controling children and what they do on the internet. But their reasons for banning are political, and in the end, if not tiktok, there will be something new.
It's a tough decision, but I don't think it should be banned. People should have the right to use what they want, and I don't know if I trust the US government with the information collected either.

Tatsächlich bin ich in dem Thema nicht drin.
Grundsätzlich bin ich gegen solche Bans in einer freien Marktwirtschaft. Andererseits macht es China ja in anderen Bereichen genauso. Unternehmen, die ich China Fuß fassen wollen sind gezwungen Joint Ventures mit chinesischen Unternehmen zu gründen, damit China nicht ausgebeutet wird und auch ein Stück vom Kuchen abbekommt.
Daher kann ich die amerikanische Idee schon nachvollziehen.
Die Sicherheitspolitischen Bedenken sind imo vorgeschoben. Wenn es wirklich darum ginge müsste Amerika noch wesentlich mehr Apps aus China in den USA verbieten.

It makes no sense to ban tiktok but leave every other China app most of which collect even more info on you on the app store. Legit makes no sense. It should either be across the board or not at all.
Banning TikTok would just make the young generations to be mad especially the ones who are using it most of the time

But I don't like the message it sends, what if they start banning more stuff, stuff that I actually care about . . . Then I would get furious.
I think the Chinese will sell. Trump made it very clear. If they want to continue to make money in the US, they must cut the Americans in. Keep in mind that the TikTok boss was invited to the inauguration to rub shoulders with the likes of Musk, Bezos and Zuckerberg.
That 170 million people use TikTok says a lot about American society. Free market Doland free market.
TikTok's users are increasing day by day but here we have even very young kids getting addicted to it. But honestly many of us here have made it vulgar which is a serious threat to children or people of all ages.

I have already tried the Red Note application, the truth is that it is very similar to Tik Tok but I am not used to looking at the Chinese lyrics. I would prefer it to be already translated, of course. They also showed those videos of what China is really like and it really surprises me that their city is so beautiful and the great variety of foods that they eat and for little money the ambulances are practically free. Also, some Chinese people in their videos show that they speak English and some speak Spanish. Although of course their Spanish sounds a little strange. 🤣🤭
