It Takes Time to Build Account .:. MyHiveGoals 2024

I was reading a post by a Hivian who came back to the platform after a 2.5-year break, and one of the first posts was a long rant about HIVE and issues that we have, according to the author... Just to clarify, I am pretty aware of the problems that we have, but I'm also aware that some of those problems can be solved... It's not easy to solve issues in decentralized surroundings, but it is possible... There were plenty of notes in that post, but I would like to focus on two points that I found interesting...

It Takes Time to Build Account.jpg
Created in Canva.com

The main issue on HIVE is the distribution of tokens... Some call that the problem of not enough decentralized governance, but, in a nutshell, we have 10-15 whales on HIVE that are holding a significant amount of HivePower... That leads to potential (or real) abuse of power in voting for proposals, or in voting for Hive witnesses... What we can do about it? Well, we can't force whales to sell their stake, that's for sure... But, we can do something else, something that I've been trying to do for the last few years... Educating smaller stakeholders of Hive Power importance!!!

Yes, whales do have a large stake, but with a larger participation in the governance of smaller HP holders, it is possible to make a change! I have noticed that some Orcas are very well aware of that, some Dolphins too, but we need a bigger participation... That's why my main goal is Hive Power goal! That's why I'm creating these #MyHiveGoals posts to motivate and inspire others to accumulate their Hive Power... It is the most important thing here on HIVE and you have to have some skin in the game! You can create perfect posts, but still, you should have some HivePower... Not for the sake of having it, but for the sake of governance, keeping your home clean, to have your voice, and showing by example!

Liotes Divider Blue.png

All this leads to the second point that I wanted to discuss... I heard a couple of times in the last 2-3 weeks that Hive isn't "welcoming" new users as it should, and that new users have no chance to "survive" on the platform if they aren't supported by whales... That it takes a lot of time to build an account!

You indeed need time, but tell me one thing... How long would it take to become popular on YouTube? How much time do these big YT channels take to get where they are? It takes time to build any business, to learn any skill, to become an expert in any discipline... Is it hard? Of course, it is! If it wouldn't be, everyone would do it... Can we have hundreds of whales on HIVE? I doubt it... Some people get it, some people don't... Some people are consistent, and stubborn, but still helpful, adding value to others and the platform... Not everyone can become an "influencer", it's not that easy to become... Nor on Hive or any other social media platform...

The numbers that you will see in #MyHiveGoals are built up continuously for 5 years! It took time to get here, but I don't regret any minute that I spent on this platform! I had fun, I have met so many great people here, and I had fun in real-life meetups... It takes time, but it's much easier when you spend it in a good company!

Back to the #MyHiveGoals numbers... 2 weeks after the last report...

The chart is still going up, and that big bar is almost at the beginning of it, which means that soon, it will be time to create another big green bar... 😃 For those who don't know what it represents, it's my #HivePUD power up which was 1K HIVE... Still not sure if I will repeat it on August 1st, but I will do a significant power-up!

If I deduct the #HivePUD powerup, it looks like I have accumulated around 1200 HivePower in the last 30 days... If I check the numbers for the last two weeks, my HivePower number went up for almost 700HP! I think that I was more active and earned more author rewards than usual... The next 3-4 weeks would be the opposite as I will not be able to create that many posts on vacation, so I have to rely on my curation rewards! Luckily, that number also goes up as my HivePower is going up! Passive income power!!!!

Oh yes, one more thing, I have noticed that my curation APR has gone up lately and I suppose that the reason behind that is that we have fewer active Hivians, and the pool is divided among fewer people... Told you numerous times, the best time for accumulation is when HIVE price is down, people are FUDding, arguing, etc. Avoiding drama and building is always the best way to go...

I have to admit that I expected more from my SWAP.HIVE:LEN shares goal this month, especially as I reached it last month... But, it looks like I got distracted with other things (and with those cheap LENM tokens), and I also split my LEN earnings into 2 pools... Anyway, I didn't reach this goal this month, and I will not do it in the rest 3-4 days, but there is time to catch up with the yearly goal, for sure...

The Rising Star goal is closer and closer to its completion... In the last two weeks, I have added 486 cards to my collection! If I continue like that (and I will 😃), I should reach my yearly goal in the next 2 weeks as I need a bit more than 300 cards until 30K NFTs! That's so unreal to write and say, 30 thousand cards!!!

These were my initial numbers and goals for 2024, created on January 7th, 2024...

I guess when things get like that and the sentiment changes, its perhaps best to step back rather than continue with negativity as it will not change anything. The problem on Hive is acute to all PoS chains with people closer to the money benefiting from the cantillion effect, will they also complain about Solana and ETH too?

0.00073251 BEE

It's a bit specific on HIVE as you have PLACE to complain directly on the chain... For other blockchains, you have to go to Twitter, Reddit, YT, Telegrams... Other chains have similar issues, but they aren't that visible, if you scratch the surface, you will find... 😃

0E-8 BEE

yes thats very true! 😅 It is quite well described by Adam Beck the problems with PoS chains, but not limited to them.

You are absolutely correct that we need MORE smaller accounts to keep powering up and actually getting out there and using their stake to vote. I know I would be well on my way if not already to orca level by now, but life had me living on power downs, so I am back at the bottom. But at least I am a minnow that has some name recognition, lol, so there is that. I'll be back up there, hopefully by spinning up my own witness node soon.

0.00073250 BEE

Well, you know what you are doing, so I'm not worried that you will not get back up there... The problem is that newbies don't have that knowledge and not many people are teaching them about it... Sometimes, it looks like we skipped 1-2 Hive "generations" that didn't learn about HivePower, and they should be those who are spreading the word to newbies...

Anyway, we have a lot of work to get there... 🙂

Did the Hive Guide leave with Jon Olsen? I know they shut a lot of their stuff down. If so, that leaves a big opportunity open for someone to start a Hive How-To kind of thing. I don't have time, but there's an opportunity.

0.00041534 BEE

There are no perfect opportunities. The test is to make the most of what is available to you. It can be tough sometimes though.

0.00075488 BEE

Agree... People see one lottery winner and imagine themselves to be like that one... While that is possible, it's not the reality... 😃

0E-8 BEE

2.5 years is a long time, but what can I say. The chain looks a bit different now. We're always quick to think we're the worst in the space, when other places are actually packaging their strength and hiding their flaws, it makes us think that it's perfect out there.
As for YouTube, I feel that it's mostly only 10% of people who actually start with the intent of making money that actually makes good money, the rest don't, because it's actually difficult.

It's super difficult to build, if you ask me, but it doesn't mean that it's impossible. The sacrifice sometimes doesn't seem to be worth it, unfortunately it goes on to be worth it for those that continues.

We're always quick to think we're the worst in the space, when other places are actually packaging their strength and hiding their flaws, it makes us think that it's perfect out there.

That's exactly what I meant when I was replying to @mypathtofire's comment :)

As for YouTube, I feel that it's mostly only 10% of people who actually start with the intent of making money that actually makes good money, the rest don't, because it's actually difficult.

But, I wouldn't say that all of them succeed (those 10% with an idea to make money)... It's not easy on any platform, and probably max 5% of those succeed... Or even less...

It's super difficult to build, if you ask me, but it doesn't mean that it's impossible. The sacrifice sometimes doesn't seem to be worth it, unfortunately it goes on to be worth it for those that continues.

...and I suppose it depends on expectations and the definition of "success" is different for everyone...

0.00089086 BEE

Like you've said, it might even be harder on YouTube and maybe I'm the one who even overestimated the success rate. I know of a Hiver who tried to get monetized, I think on tiktok or so, with what I think, I think he's mostly abandoned the quest as it's harder.
We just criticize Hive too much.

0.00041157 BEE

Sometimes it's, tough to stay motivated especially if you've lost your engagement and posting rythm. But it's not impossible to get it back! Consistently working pays off 😊

0.00072129 BEE

People think that "old" Hivians are never demotivated, or down, which is far away from truth... I have my doubts almost on a daily basis, but in the end, getting back into the saddle, and moving to balance to the positive side is what counts the most... I'm grateful to have some great Hive friends who are helping me with that a lot!

0.00000157 BEE

there are some pretty freaking awesome people here hey. We get by with a little hep from our friends :)

0.00041272 BEE

Totally agree and time is definitely required along with consistency. I have been here over 6 years now with 0 FIAT investment which highlights anyone can do this if you stick at it.

0.00072338 BEE

Exactly! We have living examples (like you) that it is possible to build an account, but it needs time! It can go faster if you have some big accounts to support you, but even then, it takes time...

Thanks for being a "role-model"!

0.00027066 BEE

I always mention the importance of HIVE Power for the HIVE blockchain in my posts about HIVE. However, some users prefer living day to day and they power down almost after every paid post.

0.00072469 BEE

I suppose we have to accept that not everyone will make it and that only a certain number of people will understand the importance of HivePower for succeeding on HIVE... We are here to show the way, and those who realize and understand can be our companions on the journey... :)

0E-8 BEE

I’m one of those who ran away from Hive almost immediately after I joined. I left for over a year and I came back last year
I’m just happy that I’m back trying to build my account
It may take time but I’m ready for this and I’d get it done
I’d be a whale someday

0.00072250 BEE

That's a nice goal! Now you need a good plan, and you are good to go!
Good luck on your journey!

0E-8 BEE

That is all true, what you say, but it is not just about consistency, cooperation, and perseverance. It also requires a bit of luck and being in the right place at the right time.
You are highly successful at this, but many users are not and progress slowly.
But sometimes, not everyone realizes HP's importance and how they can influence change. We need to increase awareness about voting for DHF projects and witnesses.

0.00072410 BEE

Exactly! That was the main message of the post! We have to work on raising awareness about HivePower, the importance of governance, and self-empowerment!

0E-8 BEE

Those who say new users don't have a chance to survive if not supported by whales don't understand how curation and support really works. Newbies
get whale support either coz they got lucky and hit the lotto, but don't bet on that in the long run. Or the whales know the newbie is legit coz they've spent the time and effort to engage and build their account and create solid content. Sadly we see a lot more of the former

0.00072047 BEE

I agree 100% with your statement, but I don't want to give up on those newbies and those who would like to build their accounts but don't know how to do it... I wouldn't put the blame ONLY on newbies... We didn't do our part and show the way...

It's easy to demotivate ourselves, especially when you turn on a TV and see who are the role models for our children... We can do better!

0.00000162 BEE

No one is giving up on newbies, I just don't want to support scammers. Too many of them around, at least one joined this week

0.00041336 BEE

When I first started I was so slow to reach that first 100 HP. But soon it became apparent that each 100 after that was coming just a little more quickly than before.
After 7years I'm watching how quickly the next 1000 adds up! It does take time. But I'llI have loved each day of learning and making friends here. There is nowhere I would rather be! ♥️

0.00072409 BEE

The snowball effect is doing its job! But, at the beginning, it was a struggle... I remember how lost I was... lol...

0E-8 BEE

I think even the people that we thought knew everything were probably a little lost, too!

0.00041855 BEE

It sure takes a lot of patience and some luck and being in the right places. August makes my 8th year here. I post something every day - some days the returns are more than 1 Hive but mostly not. That is where being in the right place and a little lucky helps.

Being in the right place is not easy. Truth is my life is not about the places and things other people are interested in. Maybe that is because I am guessing that am a lot older than other people here. I am 68. That also affects the curation - finding stuff that interests me.

8 years of posting and my HP is still dolphin - been like that from quite early on. 1 Hive a day is not exactly changing that. And I have never powered down.

0.00070745 BEE

Hmmm... Regarding my "luckiness" on HIVE, I wouldn't say that I have had any big support ever. Most support came from people that I supported and that found my content interesting...

Also, it depends a lot on the type of content that you create... I like to create content where people can engage, comment, and share their views... and it looks like people like that! Btw. I didn't create this kind of content from the beginning, and I was tweaking and changing the format, and sometimes topics and niches...

Maybe you should try to go out of your comfort zone and create something different... see how it goes...

Wish you all the best and keep pushing!!!

Educating smaller stakeholders of Hive Power importance!!!

Yes! double yes! We need to provide resources and inspiration for others to buy HIVE, power up, and get some skin in the game, continue to build their stake and vote on governance proposals and fight abuse. We need thousands of orcas and dolphins balancing out whales' stake and we need millions of smaller accounts to aspire growing to dolphins.

You can count ME in to help make this happen.

To the second point...

it takes a lot of time to build an account!

It does.

It's difficult, it takes time and there are absolutely no guarantees. This ambiguity is not for everybody. Deal with it or don't; the choice is yours to make. But know this: There are dozens of die hard Hiveans who've made it with consistency and determination. A few of them are commenting in this post. It can be done.

0.00070933 BEE

We need thousands of orcas and dolphins balancing out whales' stake and we need millions of smaller accounts to aspire growing to dolphins.

If we would have that many ACTIVE orcas and dolphins, we wouldn't have drama on HIVE regarding proposals and witness voting... :)

A few of them are commenting in this post. It can be done.

Oh, yes! Proud to see that!!! And happy for all of you!!! 😃

0.00000587 BEE

I agree with both points. Everyone should try to get some HP and have a say in the governance. HP is important and I think it's a good thing to have as it comes in useful for things like the most recent Splinterlands proposal.

As for the second point, I don't think you need whales to grow. You might grow slower but it does grow over time as long as you continue.

0.00071213 BEE

As for the second point, I don't think you need whales to grow. You might grow slower but it does grow over time as long as you continue.

I bet that more than 90% of newbies don't understand how curation works and unfortunately, all of them think that only WHALE votes count! We need to change that and educate people of real power!

0E-8 BEE

And yet it is easier than years ago with all the curation initiatives and working communities :) In the first weeks of the Czech community, we were happy to get ten cents in payouts for a post ;)

0.00071592 BEE

Active communities are doing a great job! We at Liotes have some nice collaborations with some of them, rewarding quality posts, and promoting on @Ourpick... It's not a lot, but it is definitely better than it was before (what you have explained in your beginnings!)

0.00000905 BEE

Also, quality matters way more than say 6 years ago - back than, you could get a fortune for a simple post with like three snapshots and two senteces. Given that you hanged out with the right people ;)

Having the right friends is still important, obviously, but an "unknown" person can make it to Trendings too.

0.00041134 BEE

Yeah I think more people should find solutions to the problem instead of blaming the system. If they want to have more influence on Hive, get more Hive and stake it.
!LUV

0.00071422 BEE

Amen! There is no too much brainstorming and overthinking... Accumulate more, stake it, and spread your voice!

0.00821810 BEE

I still find that too many people aren't really interested in HP and its importance even when they see the effects of the influence of a significant HP stake.

You are and have been been very consistent with your HP goal, even when some of us chose to focus on other main goals (temporarily).

0.00071373 BEE

I'm not sure that many newbies really grasp the importance of HivePower... I had a few times newbies in the show, and they would listen, and agree with HP importance, and after 3 days, power down all their HP... :(
So, I doubt that a lot of people really understand it... 🙁

0E-8 BEE

Unfortunately, I've seen enough people with higher HP who disconsider the role of their HP in the ecosystem.

About the powerdowns of newbies, it's important what their situation is too. Because if they are struggling to survive in the real world and the little they can extract from Hive can help them go by another day or week or until next month, it's different than someone who powers down because they don't trust into the future of Hive and wants to reap rewards as quickly as possible.

It's true even people with financial issues can benefit if they can make longer term plans on Hive.

There are also the decisions to play the market, and I don't think people who power down to take advantage of such market fluctuations should be judged. Everyone wants to find their best path forward.

0.00041787 BEE

Agree. Great post for my bed reading, gn :)
