This Content Matters!
We're about to enter the Twilight Zone!
I'm basically going to write a long form piece, about the importance of....Short form content!
Crazy right?
But since the launch of the new UI from LeoFinance and Threads, I think this post is as important as ever.
Hive has always had a content problem!
No, not that the content is bad or not valuable. But the fact that there has been discussions about 'what is quality content' for as long as I can remember. For years, we've seen the debate that has taken place from different members of the community.
Generally, long form content has always had a home here. And that's fantastic! Personally, the less people use Medium the better in my opinion lol. But seriously, Hive will always be home to some amazing long form content.
However, the issue comes up when you look at 'web traffic' as a whole online. Where is the majority of it generated?
Tiktok, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube (shorts)....
Literally, short form content drives traffic online. And it's what most users seem to gravitate to.
So what about this blockchain? We have all the power in the world to build and develop true web 3 applications, but for whatever reason, it's traditionally been looked down on.
Thank goodness for LeoFinance!
I can't begin to describe what Threads will mean to this blockchain going forward. Along with apps like @liketu , these are EXACTLY what this blockchain needs to make big waves online.
The biggest issue that I had with Threads was speed, which was attacked with a vengeance in this brand new UI. The moment you load this up, you see it's designed for lighting quick load times and that's needed!
Now this is a very early release of this new UI, but we can see the LEO team has already added new updates since it's launch yesterday. I'm a raving fan of a few things with Threads, this is what I've noticed that'll help propel it to new heights...
Speed
Light I mentioned, this thing is QUICK! It loads flawlessly, and that's important on a user side of things.
Clean Look & Feel
Just look at the layout above, it's got that 'Twitter feel' which at the end of the day...Doesn't need a degree in computer science to master. Another huge plus for ease of use and getting more people to actually...Heaven forbid...Use a blockchain!
The Team
This gives the marketing team at LEO some awesome ammunition to put in their arsenal. And we've already seen some of the strategies they will put in place to get all those new monthly active users we desperately need on Hive.
All in all, this is a massive win for Hive!
I encourage everyone on the blockchain, log into the new UI on Leo and start...Threading!
You don't need to write War & Peace, you don't need to be a professional photographer, and you won't need to write a Pulitzer Prize winning article...Just 'Thread'!

Big possibilities now as this gets flushed out. I personally think at some point this year we will see a internal swap system for LEO to Polygon or Binance stuff that will use the DeFi networks. Could be yet another revenue stream to fuel everything. I know I know baby steps first lol just glad we finally have something to mess with in Alpha instead of soon!

Yes! Now MOBILE APPS! I'm traveling, on the go, and want to be able to post to places such as liketu, threads, 3speak, or somewhere some photo & video! :D
I can't wait! That's the final frontier for all these apps. Huge focus in 2023 on mobile and it's game, set match!

Yup, and they are doing really good work as well. All this stuff needs to get support from the blockchain for Hive to truly be an option for the masses.

Don’t we have threads on Ecency and PeakD? I don’t spend much time on Leo (not yet at least) mainly because I don’t tend to write about financial topics
I think eventually threads can be integrated on all front ends, but right now it's a LEO feature.

I always wanted something like instagram where with short captions we can share our daily thoughts, photographs, feelings to the other same minded people. Not hive is making its possible.
The best option for that is @liketu in my opinion, but Threads is a huge option too, especially if they can integrate uploading short form videos.

The idea is very good but I have my doubts. In my time on Hive I've noticed that people are reluctant to vote for short form content, especially whales. If users are not rewarded the format will languish.
What if I like and hope is the Hive lite accounts this can be a great advance.
I mean, you aren't going to get big upvotes on Threads, but that's not the purpose of using it. It's micro payments, and micro upvotes, plus you are earning both Hive, and LEO....Which is a win.

The opinion on what content is good tends to be a tricky subject and it's tough because it differs from person to person. I do agree that threads were good because they didn't fill up people's feed and it leaves the feed for more longer form content though.

Yup, it's much better for conversations and quick bits...Long form has it's place and this stuff wont clog up feeds like you said.

Threads is by far the best short-form content we've yet been able to work into the blockchain. I know others have tried, but, at least for me... they missed the mark. No shade to the devs and their hard work... but everything else pales next to Threads. The Leo team has done great work on this.
The biggest thing for me, is the speed. The devs did such an awesome job to make everything load so quickly and smoothly.

My problem with Project Blank right now is the fact that it is so small. Well that and the fact that there isn't a mobile app. The problem is there are so many threads happening each second that virtually nothing is getting upvoted. I think a lot of that just has to do with the small user base. It's different with Twitter because there are just so many users. It's hard not to get at least 5 likes on any give post. I think one day we will get there, but right now, there isn't a ton of value to the short form content. That's my two cents.
Yeah I mean, I'm getting at max, 19 cents in LEO upvotes, haven't really looked what it's getting on Hive. But if I'm getting a few pennies here and there, that's great for conversations...My long form will always be where I hope I get the bigger votes.

I don't think I have even gotten that. I guess I don't track that kind of stuff like I used to.
Threads will definitely help get the twitter like traffic here. I know one thing for sure that threads can be also a good place for having those discussions which often are not done on the comments. UI feel would be the key here for driving that sort of discussion :)
I hope so. It's long awaited too, true web 3 on a blockchain with real use case and real people in the community using it.

Rn microblogging could bring in new users, IMO thats what matters the most, lots of threads doesnt mean new users or expansion and if it is as easy to use from mobile as mainstream social network that could the final touch, thx for sharing ✌️
The more people build a daily habit of going there, along with hanging out on Twitter, we'll build it slowly....I think larger adoption is on the horizon!

Leo team is working hard, and this new UI is a perfect example of it. As far as content debate, any contact that gives you information and doesn't hurt anyone's feeling is a good content in my point of view.
