Week on Hive

In the Spotlight

LeoMerchants Pilot Program Initiated

Inleo has been working toward a LeoMerchants Program for a while now. Their first test of the program was through the Premium upgrade on Inleo, which uses some of the same payment rails that LeoMerchants would use.

After a while of having the new payment options for Premium in production, they are preparing to roll out their pilot program of LeoMerchants for brick-and-mortar businesses.

Khal talked with a PoS provider in his area, who is also offering a network of BTC ATMs over there.

As described in the announcement, they will go in two directions with this pilot program:

  • Merchants who have PoS devices in their brick-and-mortar stores
  • BTC ATMs that they have placed in various gas stations

The second direction isn't sure, because it depends on their legal team giving the ok for the BTC ATMs to be used to buy or sell any crypto (over 300, says the announcement) with or to fiat.

But the brick-and-mortar merchants with PoS devices from this provider are very likely to start accepting crypto via LeoMerchants.

The post mentions the fee of LeoMerchants will be ~1.25%, which would be less than half the one practiced by credit card companies in that area. The fee will be swapped to HBD and remain on Hive, it is also mentioned.

Khal also said he will make a video soon with him buying something from such a store and paying via LeoMerchants.

Marketing / Awareness / Branding

Reddit Views for Hive Content. New Records Set!

HivePosh is nailing it on Reddit! Participants in contests regarding sharing content on Reddit seem to find more places that are friendly to sharing outside content (i.e. from Hive), and better strategies are used to get those upvotes on Reddit and views on Hive. Not every type of content is welcomed everywhere, that's sure. If we look at this post, a very well-targeted piece of news shared in a vegan community on Reddit was very well received and broke a few HivePosh records. Basically, I think everyone appreciates if you add value to their community, even if you share an external link at the end (although some communities expressly don't accept links).

Web3/Hive Bootcamp in Ghana

A few days ago, a Web3/Hive bootcamp was organized at the Valley View University in Kumasi, Ghana. Reports mention over 120 participants and sign ups to Hive as a result.

Online Hive Onboarding Orientation Event

The previous such events I was aware of were in-person, usually in the Philippines, and held as part of the OCD Onboarding Program.

This time the event was online, but the format was kept similar, meaning it combines an onboarding part followed by an orientation training for their first steps on Hive. At the end of the post we can find the 7 newbies who were onboarded and created intro posts.

Feedback Needed For HiveStats

The Inleo team is requesting feedback for what to include on the roadmap for the future development of HiveStats. This is a tool many Hivers use, regardless of whether they use the Inleo front end or not.

Also, if you have seen bugs, they want to know about them. Comment on this post or, even better, use Inleo and throw a thread with the feedback tag. From my own experience, they DO read those threads. Sometimes, I've seen a fix within the same day, even though it wasn't a big deal. Other times, it may be thrown on their list of to-dos.

More About Hive Debit Card

I've read this X post from the developer of the Hive debit card that uses NPC technology (same as fiat credit or debit cards, but for Hive). Part of the story was posted on Hive from what I remember, but I think the X post was updated or is newer and it's worth reading if you are interested in the subject.

Hive Keychain Updates

Hive Keychain posted a short update about what they've been working on. Some work involved dealing with some of the weaknesses revealed by the spam attack on Hive-Engine. But the most important progress seems to be in the area of being ready to support VSC from day 1 on both the browser extension and (soon) mobile, and the progress made on the EVM wallet side.

Speaking of VSC...

Vaultec Invited by Jan Thomasewsky to a Special Show (starts in a few hours)

I'm sure you know @vaultec is from VSC. You may have missed the fact that Jan Thomasewsky (@jthomasewsky) is the developer of the Hive debit card.

The show is scheduled for February 14th, at 11.00 PST (4 hours from the time of writing this). I might only catch the recording, but if can be there for the live thing...

One Bitcoin Club Community on Hive...

Bitcoiners on Hive might be interested in this. It may be in early phases...

Delayed Publishing on 3Speak

From my understanding, @sagarkothari88 describes a delayed publishing (at a later time) option on 3Speak, after uploading the video. Perhaps a precursor to scheduling posts?

Hive P2P WebApp Soon?

@HiveCuba shares the stats of the P2P exchanges using their Telegram bot since the start of the year. Apparently, the TOS of Telegram have changed and they were forced to speed up the development of the web app for their p2p exchange. They say it might be available this month. Here are the details.

Want to Download Your Hive Posts?

If you do, there is a tool to do it, announced here.

Upvotes for Small Accounts

This account apparently is set on bringing more people to the minnow level. They share some rules for you to be upvoted by them, if you are a small account.

Infographic Contest for Moonkarts

The @coldbeetrootsoup guys set up on their account a new infographic contest, this time for Moonkarts. Artists and not only should find plenty of incentives to participate. Here are more details.

Week in the Crypto World

While BTC is in Range, Hash Rate Hits New All-time High

The hash rate on the bitcoin network hits another ATH, as bitcoin is traded flat, and while the newly rebranded Strategy re-started their weekly BTC purchases. All things considered, I think there is no reason to bring into discussion the profitability hit for BTC miners due to the increased hash rate, in a bull market, as the linked article does.

Pi's Open Network Might Be Launched Next Week

I read that the mainnet of Open Network is scheduled to come out on February 20th. Over time, I've seen some Pi-related posts on Hive, so that might interest you. I checked it out once and decided against it. Don't ask me why now, but I see in the subtitle users are KYC-verified. That might be a good-enough reason for me, lol.

I was out all day yesterday and so didn't do my weekly update. Thanks for the @tenkminnows mention. It's nice that a few people support it and I think it has helped a lot of others to level up. I will keep reviewing who it votes for.

Ah, I didn't know it's yours! I remember when I had a very small account and I was happy when there were initiatives that looked upon us red fish or even minnows.

It's my little contribution :)

It's interesting to hear about the LEO merchants. I didn't see anything about it but I haven't had as much time to explore content outside of my usual stuff. It makes me wonder how things will go with it.

In my opinion, it depends on the fees and how reliable (i.e. not buggy) will the process be. If the PoS devices (and then, ATMs) are for BTC, then we are already talking about people who are accustomed to crypto, and if they have other holdings and see they can be used to pay, they may use them.
