RE: My wife thinks I'm an elf

Hello Marky,

I started to be interested in 3D printers to do some pieces for different purposes.
For example, I would like to do my own train locomotive collection using a 3D printer and also do some gifts to friends and family.

I do some research, also read your other post, but since I am new in this subject I have some questions:

Printing with different colors

This one example of a train locomotive.

It is possible to print a locomotive like this using a 3D printer?
Or it is better to print using white filament and then hand paint?

3D printers

On your previous post, you talked about the problems of using a previous 3d printer.
I don't know how to choose the best 3D printer to do this kind of work.

I saw the discussion about Prusa vs Bambu and read something related to the print area size.

Furthermore, I would like to have a 3d printer easily to assembly and use.

Sorry for the long comment with doubts, but you are the only person I know that uses a 3d printer.

yes, but you won't have that level of detail.

For example, here is a 3D printed train.

If you want fine details, you will likely have better results painting. 3D printing is usually limited to a few colors 2, 3, maybe 4, in some extreme cases 16. Color adds a lot of time and material waste to a print. For example, a print that takes 1 hour with one color may take 2,3 or even 4 hours when using muiltiple colors. If the print takes 30g of filament, multi color can take like 150g due to purge waste.

I would recommend a Bambu printer, that's what I use. There is zero assembly and it just works, very minimial problems provided you don't get a lemon. It can also do multiple colors with AMS units.

Here's a cool example of what you can do with just a single color printer.

Hello Marky,

Thanks for replying.

I talk with a local Bambu representative and since I am a beginner in 3D printer he told me to start with Bambu A1 because I am only thinking to use PLA and X1C it is a more professional printer and nice to handle other kind of materials.

So, I am thinking to buy a Bambu A1 Combo.

One last question to don't bother you anymore:

What filaments do you use?
Bamboo PLA or other brand like Polymaker?
